We had a lot of disasters in this period, although most not terribly exciting - mostly revolving around the new card styles. Those consisted mainly of endless nitpicking on font sizes, readability, art dimensions and such and shipping countless minor updates to testing.
We also did the quiet part of the work on Warp Nodes, whose fun and unique gameplay function turned into a nightmare in implementation once we got them into testing - just the way we like it!
You can believe we made pretty much every imaginable softlock happen!
To illustrate why, consider the following behavior: when a unit goes to a dead end, their movement stops, and then they activate the panel (typically a warp). If you activate a warp, it will warp you to a random warp panel that has an exit. Now, for Warp Move, we want the player to continue movement through it, even if it's in a dead end.
...I'll just leave that there for now and let you think through the ramifications of that, because I'll have a Warp Node Special later where I'll go into a lot more detail on them - because a lot of the funniest stuff actually happened all the way in July after the implementation had been "finished."
Meanwhile, please enjoy footage of this early development Warp Node that worked 100% as intended:
The following particularly funny bug was discovered when actually testing the release candidate for the May 22 hotfix. It was initially supposed to fix the reported BH icon issues, but turned out it actually replaced them with an entirely different, much worse issue, so that particular fix was delayed until the next June 4 hotfix.
We also have some early footage of the new 3D field, Ambition for you!
Hope you enjoyed them! And we'll see you in the next post.
Thank you for your support that helps us keep developing the game!
