So homie was originally charged with 15 years by the plaintiff's lawyers, BUT the judge eventually called for a 2 year sentence. I'm assuming the rich mom was the only one to take the fall, and she probably got off with good lawyers and feigning ignorance. That's a common strategy, mainly because you would have to PROVE that the person is lying, and that can be tough. The main kid's mom could have easily gotten off as well with the same plea, and a jury might take her side pleading that it was all for the benefit of her son.
