Nagato does see his younger self in Naruto, especially since they share the same master. Hence, he wanted to make Naruto suffer just the way he did, and watch him continue the cycle of hatred. In a way he wanted to reaffirm his philosophy and that he came to right solution. "Do you hate me now?" "Do you still think people can understand each other?" 😭

Seriously 2 of my FAVORITE episodes from the whole series. 167 might be my fav. That scene where Minato just swoops in and helps Naruto, omg talk about epic. And Hinata’s bravery as well, just utterly inspiring. Going down there when it means almost 100% death. Her character was set up for this very moment ever since the Chunin Exams. The animation for both fights were incredibly animated too. Love this arc.

That pain fight. You might be in the minority at least when it comes to the part where the wheels come off the animation regarding it's quality lol.
