Remember Pouf asked Welfin to call Pitou to convince her that Komugi's "saved". This was right before the battle in episode 131. Pouf transformed into Komugi with his Beelzebub ability, but he needed Welfin as additional "evidence". Just one more thing that a lot of people missed: The guy reciting the poem is not the same Diego you saw Meruem decapitate/Pitou revived. He's retired and let the current fake Diego stand in for him. It suggest that the real Diego was very much someone with wisdom.

A very powerful moment at the end, Komugi and Meruems final moments. It's not something you would expect after watching the first episode of hxh. Thanks for the reactions, this arc has been up and down and around.

What beautiful character development for Meruem. This arc started with us hating the ants and the King in particular. And we end it with us understanding the changed Meruem and crying at his death. The King who always says I won't repeat myself dies while repeating the phrase "are you still there Komugi?". At the end the King had gone blind due to the poison, indicated by the reduction in the En particles. They were both playing blind, without touching the board and just playing in their heads. In the end, when Komugi touched Meruem's face, she does realize he isn't human, but that doesn't push her back...instead she firmly holds his hand 😭😭😭 135 is my favourite Hunter Hunter episode, never been so touched.

Pouf, Youpi and Meruem shared bodies (kind of), so it was established that they knew each other's emotions. It's not like he could actually read their minds, but was able to tell fluctuations in feelings etc. You have to go back to episode 104 to fully understand what Kokoriko (heart's child) is. This move was established as a dead-end strategy with no outcomes other than eventual defeat. That's why Meruem got super pissed off that Komugi played it during their final moments.

Remember how Knov's hair got white recently, and then he started loosing hair. Welfin's case was a extreme version of this. In the face of death and fear one ages quickly I guess

This episode is so beautiful, i'm a full grown man at 35 years with a full beard and look like a lumberjack, and I broke down like a little baby at this episode. Note at the end, she just calls him "Meruem" without the honorifics (-sama), just like he wanted her to do if he won once. She granted him that at the very end.

You are right. The Kokoriko move has a lot of symbolic meaning too: Kokoriko is an advanced Gungi technique invented by Komugi that centers around isolating the King (as in the Gungi piece, not the Chimera Ant King, obviously), separating it from the other pieces and killing it off. Just like Netero and the Hunters were planning to do to Meruem. However, Komugi unexpectedly develops a counter to this technique in the middle of a game, meaning that the King piece (representing Meruem) no longer has to die (since he unexpectedly survived the nuke, Miniature Rose). Then, later on, when Komugi uses Kokoriko again, she actually develops a counter to the counter ("she reversed my reversal???"), representing that the King piece (Meruem) apparently actually does have to die after all (because of the Miniature Rose's poison). However, immediately after beating Meruem using Kokoriko (symbolizing his imminent death), Komugi and Meruem start one final game together, a game that they never finish. Immediately afterwards, they die together, leaving on the board Meruem's one black piece and Komugi's single white piece, together in Gungi forever. This represents that the two were always united through Gungi, and will continue to be together even after death, undisturbed and united for all eternity. Meruem places his piece down, symbolizing his death, and then Komugi responds by placing her piece down next to his, showing that she is perfectly willing to die at his side. (copied comment)
