Oh wow, I didn't see that coming. I'm intrigued and mildly disturbed at the same time? hehe

I had the same thoughts as you on the beginning, and a lot of the same misgivings! Before Oshi no Ko got an anime, I dropped the manga after 3 chapters, because I found the idea of the adult fan being reincarnated as the idol's baby way too creepy. I gave the series another chance a few weeks ago and, honestly, it got me hooked. I binged the entire manga after watching the anime in just one day 🤣 and, honestly, it's one of the very few series I'd give a 10/10 😅 It's an incredibly insightful look at the Japanese entertainment industry and fan culture and the character work was great, imo. They even sold me on the reincarnation bit after a while haha That was a very unique reaction to Ai's death scene 🤣 I don't think I've ever seen someone react by being annoyed at Ai's voice's tone xD Interesting thoughts at the end! I think you summed it up perfectly when you said: "Even when Ai died, it was beautiful". I think the fact that the show makes an effort to display even the horrible stuff as beautiful is a very intentional choice. It touches on the lying motif and how fake the entertainment world can be. It also relates to how you mentioned that you didn't find the babies cute, I think. Even though they're drawn in a very cutesy way, Aqua straight up says in the episode that they're not cute, but creepy.
