One of the main issues ppl had with the ending was Eren breaking down in the end an basically throwing a tantrum over not being able to be with Mikasa. This part was so confusing because at any moment he so chose he could've had Mikasa in any which way he wanted to, she was basically begging for it at certain points throughout the series. Yet he never acts on it. So why wait until the last second to Start whining about that when it was literally your decision. Just ruined all the development an resolve he had. Jean ends up balls deep in Mikasa an Eren ends up as a bird 😂. Tragic, (shoutout to horse face) with that said, the Anime did a much better job portaying the finale of the series than the Manga did.

I think it's a classic case of "don't know what you got till it's gone". Throughout the first 3 seasons, Eren was consumed with killing titans and getting his revenge and achieving freedom, and he always seemed to be taking Mikasa for granted. She proved time and time again she would always be there, so he didn't have to worry about it. He even saw her as a nuisance at times, which goes to show how sure he was she would never leave his side. And he was young and hotheaded, and overall I think he was just too much of a child to realize how deep his feelings might go. It always bothered me the way he treated her, but I think it makes perfect sense for his character and for the overall arc he goes through, now that I can look back on all of it. By the time season 4 came around, or ever since the vision of the future he got at the end of season 3, it was already too late. Knowing that she would have to be the one to kill him must have changed his perspective drastically (edit: I actually looked that scene over again, and he says he didn’t know what Mikasa was going to do, only that she was the one who had to do it. But I still feel in some ways, he knew what it would have to come down to. And even if he really didn’t somehow, or maybe he was in denial about it, it still put a focus on Mikasa in his eyes that wasn’t there before). Suddenly she wasn't the same old Mikasa that would always be there no matter what. There was one scene in season 4 where he asks Zeke about what her attachment to him meant, and I think that one at least was genuine, to some degree anyway. He was starting to see her in a different light and finally starting to realize his feelings for her, all the time knowing there cannot be a good ending for them. Makes sense that he would be confused, have mixed feelings, maybe even feel resentment or a need to keep his distance, knowing what has to come to pass between them. He was an idiot and his realization came too late and he had to keep it all to himself for a very long time. There was a very thin line he was treading in season 4. Will getting too close change too much? Will keeping his distance change too much? It even seems that if Mikasa's answer to him that night before he decided to leave them had been different, he might have chosen another path (and maybe had that whole cabin future with Mikasa but given up on the rest of his friends). It all had a very delicate balance and who knows what could have happened if he'd made other choices. So in view of all of this, his outburst at the end made sense to me, and honestly kinda made me happy. But that's just the way I see it, I guess. Sorry for the long rant😅 It was interesting to try to analyze why I liked it.
