Tbf to Tobirama, he was right that things should be run somewhat democratically rather than just handing the position to Madara just because Hashirama wanted it. That being said, you know if Madara was actually popular, he would have switched up real quick lmao. Also, I do like how when Obito told the story to Sasuke, he got the main points right, but he wasn't able to accurately capture what Hashirama and Madara's relationship was actually like, which really affects the tone of the backstory. Because, as Hashirama said, Madara changed after Izuna died, and even though he seemed to get better for a bit there after the village was formed, he never fully healed, and that festered until he decided to give up on the village, and even Hashirama couldn't convince him to stay. And that's the Madara whom Obito knows. A defeated, bitter old man who lost everything in this world and is solely focused on creating a new world.

What do you mean switched up?

He wouldn't be talking about electing a leader democratically if he knew there was a real chance that Madara would be selected. He only felt comfortable recommending democracy because he knew everyone wanted Hashirama as the leader.

Good point lol. John I’m pretty sure he means like switched to the idea of voting like being on board with it. I feel like when they are all really young it’s pretty evident that Tobirama is most aligned with his dad out of all the sons. The idea that they are in war and the family needs to start tightening up and acting like it. Where as Hashirama and his other brother sort of feel like why does everything have to be like this? Tobi’s mentality is def justified but it’s super clear he still does not like Madara and has no remorse for killing his brother because in “war is war”

I'd say Tobirama was more of a middle ground. Even in the flashback, he knows that the adults are wrong and that armistices and enduring peace deals are the way forward. He also agrees with his brother's idea of adopting the framework of a village to uphold the peace. But he retains some of his father's tribal thinking and, ironically, similar to Madara, believes Hashirama to be too idealistic.

Overall Tobirama, biases aside, had a very valid point. Everyone knew that Hashirama was the driving force behind establishing the village, and it pretty much only mattered to him that Madara shared in that dream a long time ago. Being real, it was still basically Hashirama's idea from beginning to end even as a kid; Madara just agreed with it and shared in that dream for a little while. It's no wonder why Madara gave up on it more easily than him, imo
