Friends was SO ahead of its time and they really went into storylines ans respected them. I don’t know what sitcom before them tackled a lesbian relationship with Ross’ situation and show that there was different kinds of families. They broke barriers in MANY of the topics on the show that would never have otherwise been on air in the 90’s and 2000’s. Friends influenced me in so many ways because I was born in 1992 and started watching it in 1st/2nd grade. All I knew and understood was the value of friendships, being there for others, being supportive, loving others despite their differences, and I grew up with that mentality. I know I am as sarcastic as I am because of Chandler. 100000%. I think they also taught me that you don’t have to have everything figured out by 18 like the world thinks you should in so many ways. you don’t have to have the cookie cutter life and feel like if you have anything less than that, you have a life that should be looked down upon. In one of the episodes you watched where they were all playing twister, Rachel just looked at all of them in their chaos, and even though she didn’t have her life together, she knew she was fine because she had good people around her. I think that sums up friends perfectly.

I didn't watch until I was older, so I don't know if I was really influenced by anything. But I definitely say a lot of the lines in real life lol

I watched Friends in the summer when I was in middle school and my freshman year of high school and when I was a freshman Friends was in it's last season and Jennifer Aniston had these side swiped bangs. I ended up asking to get that done as well. Unfortunately the person who cut them didn't do as good of a job so they were a little too short for me but I delt with it. The character of Rachel Green always influenced me though as she was always my favorite and I think what I liked most about her was that she went from depending on people to being independent and without giving too much away followed her dreams and went for it without the help of her rich family. I also loved the chemistry between her and Ross and so just always gravitated toward thier relationship over relationships on the show.

to be fair, I think this was more an example of open relationships than sex-only relationships, which are also judged a lot (esp in the 90s). but yeah double standards are showcased quite a bit

I wouldn't say I was influenced by Friends in any particular way. Mostly because it was just a show everyone knew about, whether they watched it or not. But, it did influence the kind of jokes people made (depending on the crowd you hung out with).

Since I watched the show in my sexually formative years 😂 I would say that it actually influenced my taste in men and just what I should and shouldn’t do in relationships. Not a spoiler but there are some characters we will see have very successful relationships and those who literally suck at relationships. And I think I took some good advice into my teen and adult years.

chandler influenced my sense of humor and my level of sarcasm

Alex Foster

Definitely influenced my type of humour.

I first watched after it finished airing but before it got big again with streaming and everything. we had the box dvd set and I didnt understand so many of the jokes but still enjoyed it which I think speaks to its widespread popularity. also, on rewatches when I was a bit older, I ended up learning a lot of pop culture references because I would look up the jokes so I could understand them. I even watched some of the shows and things they referred to

There isn't really one specific way the show has influenced me. It's just been such a big part of my life. But the character of Chandler has made me really dig deep into how and why I deal with trauma the way I do. This is actually the first episode that features 'The Rachel' haircut, and, ironically, Jennifer Aniston hated it. Also, the movie director is director James Burrows who directed many TV shows including several episodes of Friends. And Sofia Milos who plays Aurora was on C.S.I: Miami. She is GORGEOUS.

Wow all of the times I've seen this and I never noticed Chandler's "MY EYES" line

Azza Alazem

I started wearing vests because of Chandler 😂

i don’t remember influences from when i was young, but now i want their style clothes wise, monica and rachel

Luma Beserra

I learned that I use humor as coping mechanism watching Chandler do it 😅 that's why he is my favorite

It definitely influenced my sense of humor, but also influenced how I saw myself. I used to hide who I really was, and would act how I though others wanted me to act. But seeing Pheobe just unapologetically being her weird kooky self showed me it was okay for me to be myself. By all means Pheobe wasn't the only sitcom character to show me that but she was definitely top 3.

I think I was most influenced by Friends in that I tried to surround myself with friends I truly cared about and focused on those friendships. I'm still friends with most of my friend group 20 years later.
