can’t wait to watch the season finale!! but from what I remember, I don’t agree with the winner 😭

Liv Heskett

I would say in order of people I root for I would say by a long shot Damian. Then Sam and Lindsay I guess are kinda tied. And Alex is last personally. Idk something about Alex was disingenuous to me and I couldn’t really look past it. They are obviously vocally incredible but I also feel like they are one note like Sam. Surprisingly I think Damian is the most diverse in talent. He ate the rap, he can kinda morph his voice to fit the genre. We’re as Lindsay and Alex and Sam always sounded the same. Even if technically their vocals were better. Based on overall talent, writability and professionalism I think Damian is the clear choice. He never complained. He always just took the note and tried to show them what they want. Can’t say that about any of the other 4. (Maybe Lindsay at the end) Sam obviously won because Ryan wanted Cameron to win. And when he quit he was left with this idea of a character and Sam fit into it perfectly. He knew he wanted Sam as soon as he told him he had bible verses tattooed. I actually really liked Damien and Sam’s characters in glee unlike some people. I felt like for how short they were on there that they had pretty good character development. Sam’s character struggled with accepting gay people because of his faith and then welcomed them with open arms and then helped Quinn when she got in her accident. Damian started off as this dorky weirdo and became the guy who had a feud with Artie and dated Sugar Mota. I thought they were cute. Wish Lindsay had more than 2 episodes. I think it would’ve been funny to see her pop in once a season to torture Rachel 😂. And you know I wasn’t a huge fan of unique as a character, but I did appreciate and respect what that character did for representation and Alex was really brave for taking on that role when they were so young and JUST had come out. It’s really admirable. So ya I’m excited to see you react to the scenes they’re in. And I’m actually soooooo excited to do season 2. As I mentioned in a previous comment I think it improves on everything season 1 was lacking in.

angele caporicci

Interesting that the four of them were on Glee, but that Alex stayed the longest, and ultimately had the largest impact on the show. Just goes to show you, that winning the competition isn’t always the best thing.

Liv Heskett

Idk if it’s been confirmed but it’s been heavily implied/speculated that the reason Alex got only a 2 ep arch at first was because they wanted to test the waters to see if the general public was ready for that kind of story. Having a black trans teen character in 2011 was actually unheard of. Glad they ended up going through with it. It was my first exposure to a trans woman (that I was aware of)

Lydia Shepard

Lindsay was the one I was always rooting for. She was always my favorite. I also wish that Marissa wasn't eliminated as I do believe those two should have been in the top 4 for sure. And I know this isn't a talent competition but I am surprised they didn't really take acting into consideration since acting is the most important part of the show. You don't have to be a good singer or dancer on Glee but you do need to act and I just thought that when Damian was a terrible actor when he was on the show and Sam was just meh. When Lindsay was on the show they barely had her act even after they said she was the best actor of the 4 of them so I thought that was odd. As for what you said about the acting without giving anything away I do think they kinda learn their lesson in season 2 as their is an actability episode. They aren't given a script to read but they do have some acting they have to do so that is improved. Also Ryan does say for season 2 he does at least watch the music videos.

beth

Joe was a bit of a dud as a character (and the Quinn arc didn't really make sense because there wasn't chemistry). My favorite line from him was when Brittany was saying goodbye at the end of S4. Brittany: "...and Mike Chang and Blaine and Jim— you guys are all like my brothers." Joe: my name's 'Joe' Brittany (ignores him) ": ... and Artie..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgyB5g3eE-4

Benjamin Smith

Now that we’ve seen the finale. With Samuel winning, I am very confident in saying that Ryan’s planned winner was without a doubt Cameron. He kept bringing up the Christian character but with Cameron bowing out, he latched onto Samuel to be that character. Cameron won a fan favorite thing to and recorded a duet with Damian after the show ended.

Landon Ballesteros

I have to say during the Raise Your Glass video, my eyes were actually on MARISSA the entire time. She looked absolutely stunning. Hers was a talent eliminated far too soon IMO. When I first watched this at 15/16 years old I remember really gravitating more towards Lindsay as my winner, but now all these years later I enjoyed Damian’s final performance SO much. As far as Samuel’s win, sadly I didn’t see it back then and I still don’t see it now. The religion thing is definitely what kept him there and it does sound like Ryan wanted this indie rock type in the cast, but yeah I just don’t see it. As far as Alex, I think if I didn’t have as much concern about their professionalism if they were to join the cast, that would’ve been a clear winner. While Damian wasn’t the most talented, he showed that he takes direction with optimism and positivity and is easy to work with - something that I’d say all the people who do work on the ground with the cast (Nikki, Zach, Brooke, and Erik) would appreciate in taking a very green actor on for a 7 episode arc. TOTALLY agree on what you said on acting ability. They actually do address that in season 2 so I hope you enjoy that when the time comes! I feel like if they did something like that in Season 1 then Lindsay might have shone more.

M Russell

This was a very good analysis i must say, completely on the spot for everything, very objective and taking into consideration Ryan's point of view. Bravo Liv👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽completely agree on everything btw lol

jade

i think it was very obvious that ryan had a plan for what he wanted on the show and then choose someone around that. as others have said, he definitely had the male religious character in mind and, therefore, favoured cameron heavily for the win. cameron, then, obviously threw a spanner in the works when he quit but samuel jumped at the chance to be like 'hey i can be your male religious character' and that pretty much secured him the win. was disappointed then and am disappointed now lol. i'm a bit biased (being irish) but i truly believe if ryan had taken damian seriously and actually wrote a better character than just 'let's throw every single irish stereotype together into a character and call it a day' then he could have really shone on glee. yes, he's not the best actor, singer or dancer but he's very versatile and very mouldable. i really did enjoy lindsay's character when she was on glee and i wish they had kept her on it for longer. alex, at the end of the day, is glee. didn't win but cemented their place in the show's history. legend.

jade

i can't wait for you to get into season 2. i don't know if this is the consensus with everyone but i believe it to be the greater season. contestant wise, quality wise, it just checks everything for me.

Liv Heskett

I agree. I think I like the contestants as people more on season 1 but the overall talent and readiness/professionalism is leaps and bounds better in season two

Wayne Joy

And yes Lindsey was in two episodes in season 3 and she had a solo in each episode. Sam ended up being in 10 season 3 episodes, 13 season 4 episodes and 2 season 6 episodes. Damian was in 17 season 3 episodes and 1 season 4 episodes. He was also by far the most experienced entertainer in the Glee Project having done world tours with Celtic Thunder. Alex lead all Glee Project cast members by appearing in 3 season 3 episodes, 18 season 4 episodes, 13 season 5 episodes and 2 season 6 episodes.

Zach Davis

Finally!!!! You like Damien! I’ve been saying this whole time Audrey!!! And, no offense to anyone but kinda unfair that only super fans get the reactions to the winners first glee eps. I wouldn’t mind bumping up for a month but then I’d grandfathered status with my $5 tier. I would bump up and watch quite a few things then go back, but I know that’s not an option. And I was one of the ones who suggested that Audrey reacted to that. I know it sounds like I’m whining and I kinda am 🤣 just venting. Can’t wait for season 2 of glee project which I think the winner has more of an impact on the show and Audrey will remember.

Zach Davis

“What’s their script?” The “reality” show was their script and acting challenge 😂

Benjamin Smith

I can’t stand the winner of season 2 and I really disliked the character they played in Glee. Hate to be negative but they just annoyed me so much on the show.

Zach Davis

I’m curious Audrey’s thoughts

Selma Jabr

Starting by answering your question, I would root for Damian out of the final 4. He is so positive and he really stepped up these last 2 episodes. He did his best vocally and put the most thought into his last solo. He also took Ryan’s advice to heart better than the others. He pulled from what he learned from Celtic Thunder and it really payed off. But I wish we saw more of that side of him in glee. Besides the Valentine’s Day episode and a little splash in the beginning, the writers didn’t deliver. But despite that, Rory was always a character that I liked. He just has a great energy about him. Fun fact: the writer offered him a contract for S4 but her turned it down. I kind of wish he didn’t because that could’ve been the season we really saw who Rory was. And I agree with you about Hannah. I really hope she went on to have a successful career! With Alex, I agree with you again. Best voice but was very bland on camera except for maybe the vulnerability challenge in the library. It’s clear that they grew up singing but had 0 acting experience. Also it’s interesting seeing them before they were fully out. You can tell that they either don’t yet know or don’t want to tell everyone why he wants to wear drag all of the time. I’m glad that things worked for them, Tony Winner! With Lindsey, I agree as well. (We think alike!) I never felt a connection to her and despite that solo being her best/most valuable performance, it still wasn’t as deep as I would’ve liked. Plus I can’t think of a character for her besides a Rachel Berry type. And Lindseys voice isn’t on that level, yet. (Now Tony winner) That’s clear in her 2 episode arc as a Rachel Berry doppelgänger. Samual is also my least favorite of the 4, and one of them overall. His last solo was his best performance, but I didn’t feel a connection from him to that song at all. He definitely is a one trick pony. Plus the character that Ryan pushes onto him would only work for a few episodes and the what? There’s a reason why he faded after a while and they dropped him. I think that’s the main reason why he won. At least Damian got offered back. I would definitely choose Alex over him as the other winner, though it’s not super upsetting as Alex was liked enough to be brought unexpectedly and they got the best deal out of everybody. I heard that S2 is better as all of the contestants are older, at least 22, and have some experience in show business. Plus they have and acting challenge. Raise Your Glass was stage best MV. Great vocals and not awkward at all! Also you convinced me! I’m joining super fans next month! (After I delete some streaming services.)

Heida

I think we all hate the winner of S2 but I personally liked the character

Heida

Just so you know there is an episode before the first "official" episode in S2 (like in S1) showing how they made the cut to the final 14. My winner would have also been Damian and he and Alex were my #1 overall in the season. I liked Samuel but maybe that's partly cuz I had a huge crush on him lol and Lindsay was just amazing. My final 4 would have been Damian, Alex, Lindsay and Marissa or Hannah. Samuel and Damian both won a 7-episode arc, but Samuel ended up being in 23 episodes while Damian was in 18 episodes. Alex was originally only supposed to have a two-episode arc in S3, but became a recurring character in S4 and a series regular in S5, appearing in 39 episodes overall (the most out of all of them). In the S3 premiere, Lindsay was introduced as Harmony, a very Rachel-esque character, as Rachel and Kurt were scouting out the competition. Her contract was not extended and she only appeared in one other episode of S3. Ellis, who was eliminated in ep. 2, makes a cameo appearance in Glee S4E9 "Swan Song" - She is an audience member during the NYADA Winter Showcase. As for the acting, I think they focus on that more in S2 if I remember correctly. But also this is a "reality" show so they may have been given scripts without us knowing. Fun facts about the final four: Damian won his first singing competition when he was just 5 years old and began touring with the Irish vocal group Celtic Thunder at age 14, but prior to TGP he had never had a singing lesson. He had trouble acquiring a U.S. visa to do TGP and almost had to drop out of the competition, however, his visa pulled through last minute. He is seen in the audience of Glee: The 3D Concert Movie while Darren and the Warblers are singing Silly Love Songs. Samuel auditioned for the part of Sam but lost out to Chord Overstreet. He is the only contender that didn't make an audition video for The Glee Project and instead used an old video from when he auditioned for Glee. In 2010, he also auditioned for American Idol and made it to Hollywood Week before being cut. In 2012, Alex was accepted into the Berklee College of Music but decided instead to move to LA to be on the show when they were asked to rejoin the cast for S4. They were born on the exact same day as Demi Lovato, August 20th 1992. And obviously, they were the first ever nonbinary actor to win a Tony Award for their role in Shucked on Broadway. Lindsay had performed in many amateur shows prior to TGP. Robert Ulrich, the casting director, saw a show she was in and asked her to audition. She portrayed Wendla in the L.A. production of Spring Awakening in 2012, the part which Lea Michele originated on Broadway in 2006. Lindsay made her own Broadway debut as Elphaba in Wicked in 2020 and made her national tour debut as Janis in Mean Girls in 2022. There was a competition on who was the fan favourite, which Cameron won. He received $10,000, a recording contract and got to release a live video performance which he chose to perform with Damian: https://youtu.be/uqd6TGAfrBI?si=HEl39eVo3csJWxpW. Cameron also said that he was gonna use his winnings to pay for an apartment which he planned to (and did) share with Damian. And fun fact: Cameron and Demi Lovato dated when he was 15 and they were 13. He was actually Demi's first boyfriend: https://youtu.be/OfR5bFvT5aw?si=X8bg9yFzvwEWq1Ml https://twitter.com/ddlovato/status/80113241442893825?t=jx6X5Q5SZmhzno7R7zjgQA&s=19 https://twitter.com/camronmitchell/status/82621263792709632?t=TR4V40hjY1GhUfFyxZPMpQ&s=19 Another fun fact: Husband and wife Nikki Anders, vocal director, and Adam Anders, Glee music producer, wrote and originally sang Roots Before Branches, the song Rachel sings in the S3 finale. Adam also wrote Loser Like Me and Get It Right.

Heida

That sucks for you, especially since you are one of the people who suggested it. But Audrey's gotta give us Super Fans something more since we are paying more, otherwise there'd be no point.

Linda

what's next are we watching glee again!!

Fawn

Omg i had forgotten who won, and googled Damien to see what he’s doing now but got spoiled with a post he had written- kept watching the vid and then was bamboozled when they said Samuel hahaha. I think Samuel was a weird choice! Alex was clearly the better option and that proved to be true with how their arc went on in the show. But I will say, i do think Damien was a good choice for the winner. Again i’m biased because I absolutely adore him, but he worked the hardest, took every bit of advice and direction and looks so good on camera. I told you from the first few eps with Jesses Girl that it was very clear that Ryan immediately loved him! Plus, his entire arc through the reality show is literally the underdog story/heros journey. Loveable character who is not particularly strong sets out on a journey, fails and grows, fails and grows, gets saved by a friend and then finally comes out on top! This arc is exactly why he got picked and why it’s edited the way that it is imo! I do wish his character on Glee was a little bit…more. I loved Rory and thought he was adorable and sweet but Damien definitely had the ability to stay on for longer if his character was just a little better/more important. Idk what they could have done specifically which is fair but lol still

Jennifer Lawrence

Right, $30 a month just isn't really an option for me at the moment. I was honestly a bit off-put (though I know that wasn't the intention) by the whole "I don't understand what you're waiting for" mentality. My answer would have been a different financial situation. But, I get it. There has to be incentives or people wouldn't bump up to higher tiers lol.

Jennifer Lawrence

Right, it was even a joke on the show about how Finn/Cory couldn't dance lol. Though he did improve. And then the storyline where Sugar was unable to sing but they had to let her join regardless.

Lauren Obeng

I loved how Alex did so amazing with his 2 episode arc that he ended up getting a whole season and a half ! Damien was such a great choice, I just wished they did a little more with Rory

heather Phillips

I think Damien deserved to win . I always love:when he sing solos ! Both as Rory and IRL he seems to be such a sweet person. Not sure if anyone mentioned this but he was runner up on the Irish version of Dancing With The Stars ! Quite the long way from when he was struggling with Choreo on TGP . 😊He also just put out a song he wrote for his baby daughter . I like Samuel (Joe) on Glee particularly the important story of him as a Christian coming to accept Brittany and Santana being in love with each other . He some how seems less smouldery to me when he is on Glee . I feel Lindsey's ( Harmony) solos on Glee give Rachael a run for her money. Alex is an amazing singer! I like Unique on Glee especially " if I were a boy "and I love Mo on Zoey's. Alex's acting is. so much better on Zoey's.

fry

damian was done so dirty because he is so lovable and he has aspects of finn like that dorky cute side they could have stuck to him being finn’s little protege but they cut that storyline halfway through s3 and then rory just fell to the wayside. i would have preferred him as the “new finn” instead of ryder who i always found bland

fry

god i can’t even imagine samuel doing an episode like the justin bieber experience 😭 they definitely struck gold with chord i couldn’t imagine anyone else being sam or not having trouty mouth as a running gag of the show

fry

please tell me i’m not the only one who can feel how much of a lindsay hater that nikki anders is

SongsFromASuitcase

Woh! Why would Damian decline the S4 part? Hahah! Yes we do think alike Welcome to SUper Fans!!

SongsFromASuitcase

Haha! That’s assuming that they were being themselves on the show.

SongsFromASuitcase

You’re one of the few that gets $5 tier still. There’s not many of you left! I just keep adding in new shows which I had never planned when I made that tier in the beginning. You’re getting the goodies for sure. I’m not sure I would call what I’m doing as “unfair” on your end. hahah!

Zach Davis

You’re holding the once upon a time musical from me, that’s cruel 🤣

SongsFromASuitcase

Yea I also got the feeling like things were almost pre-planned for Cameron

SongsFromASuitcase

Yea but what would the story line be for the person who can’t act and deliver lines as the character they’re supposed to currently be?

Selma Jabr

I think, based on subtext from his ATWYRM episode, he realized that acting wasn’t for him. I kind of wish he didn’t though because that could’ve been the season we saw some depth to Rory as well as more friendships.

Landon Ballesteros

From what I gather from that podcast as well, it sounds like he turned it down because he would basically be signing up for another season of sitting in the back row of the choir room. Damian wanted to perform and was not getting much opportunity to do so, much like other talents in the room not named Lea, Cory, Darren, Amber, and Naya lol.

Nicole M

even though I was rooting for damian the whole time when it first aired, rewatching this for the first time I was pretty shocked he made it as far as he did. however, by the end, I understood it again. I think ryan and the writers saw him as a chris colfer/cory combo. for cory - the awkwardness and suboptimal singing voice, but cory improved sooo much over the course of the show. chris because he inspired them to create the role of kurt and was so young and I think damian is definitely the most earnest at least of the final four. also, they knew he had good work ethic from his touring experience and a great attitude and willingness to learn. and I disagree I think damian is so cute! now too, following him on instagram lol. i was thinking they would probably want someone to win that wouldn't possibly cause any issues on set (like the apparent dramatics of alex and lindsay) because they so publicly committed to 7 episodes so if they won, theyd have to give them their 7 episodes even if they were terrible to work with. like everyone here, I agree rory and joe were not fleshed out at all but it was still so much fun to see them on the show the next season because I felt like I knew them. also I think it would've been funny if they brought lindsay back just like one more time at one of rachel's broadway auditions. also ive never thought about this, but it's pretty funny that the conclusion of this season is kind of "we're all winners, it's a tie!" with all of the final 4 getting spots on the show because that's the same attitude sue makes fun of will and the glee club for having.

Asela Shabazz

One fact that you missed, Ellis also can be seen singing ensemble in the cover of Baby Got Back by the NYADA glee cub the “Adam’s Apples”, Season 4 Ep. 11

Asela Shabazz

Watched this when it came out for the first time when I was about 13. I had a big crush on Samuel, so loved watching him throughout the show, but Alex was definitely my top contender back then. Watching it back, it would’ve been a toss up between Damien and Alex for my winner, out of who got to the finale, but I thought Marissa was sooooo good overall and she could’ve been such an interesting character for the show whatever they gave her. I saw someone said Marissa could’ve been an even greater “Marley” character and I whole heartedly agree
