I'm not sure if the videos are synced up, at least during the theme song and I think you just missed the sweet 'n low joke from earlier in the episode

Liv Heskett

Maybe it’s cause I have adhd but I don’t even notice the laugh track.

Miguel Candeias

to be honest, i never gave much importance to the laughs in the background until you talk about it. Once upon a time and Friends days are the best. I would totally watch this with you two times a week, easily. Just sayin... ;p

Erwin 𐚁

The live audience never bothered me and I agree there are times when it makes the scenes funnier.

Dominic

Watching friends the laugh track grows on you I hated it at first but then I got used to it because they used it at the right moments they didn’t over use it like some shows to the point where it’s unbearable

Alicia

I can't wait until you watch two at once because it's true what you said, its over too fast. The laughing in he background never bothered me. they had a studio audience and always did behind the scenes features that showed there was a studio audience. The only time they ever inserted a track, and it was shown in behind the scenes of a season five episode they did, was when the audience laughed too much and for too long. they had to cut it short in order to keep the scene moving. there was one time in a scene with Chandler and Monica, the laughing went on for over a minute and so they had to put in a track in certain parts when it got to be too long because in network tv, you have allowed time and you can’t go over that. They explained that in an hour long behind the scenes feature. Aside from that, it was solely a studio audience. I feel like that is what brings everything together. the whole point of friends to laugh and share moments and that was another aspect of it where you’re watching it with other people and laughing with other people. 💜❤️

I think knowing that is live audience helped but it never bothered me and it’s such a 90’s sitcom thing. Some people hate on Friends saying that if you take the laughs it’s not funny but I don’t agree with that. I’m really enjoying rewatching Friends with you being your first time. I wish it was twice a week

Emma Schultz

I never really paid much attention to the laugh track to be honest. I’m laughing when they are so it has never bothered me😊

What happened to Nana is called Lazarus syndrome which is extremely rare but well-documented. There are a variety of reasons a human could medically die but spontaneously return to life. While some patients recover, it's also very common (like in the case of Nana) for the patients to experience a second and final death within hours, days or weeks. Also, another idea for the name of the coffeehouse was "Java Joe's", which was on the picture of Nana and her friends. And Lisa Kudrow did have a cold while filming this episode! I love the laughing in the background. Then again, I'm used to it 😉

Jennifer Lawrence

Right, and it was so common for shows to have one. Especially the comedy sitcoms. Now it's much rarer so it'd stand out more.

Jenny D

I've never really minded. Like another commenter said, just kind of an expected 90s sitcom thing. It does get annoying in modern shows when it's a laugh track. It just doesn't feel authentic.

leaszn

I love the laugh track bc it's at all the right moments!

Hoosier Steph

I find the laugh track fun as well. It is such a good throw back to that era. I'm pretty sure most of these shows had a live audience and they mixed in a laugh track as well.

Jennifer Lawrence

I grew up with shows with laugh tracks. Oftentimes they would even have a character saying at the beginning along with the credits that it was "filmed in front of a live studio audience". It doesn't seem to be as common anymore. Outside of game shows, night shows, SNL, that sort of stuff. I don't really notice it now as I'm so used to it. I'm sure if you either didn't grow up with it or didn't watch a lot of sitcoms during that era it'd stand out more. There's a lot of mixed opinions out there on if it's distracting/annoying. I'm just neutral lol. I don't let it distract from my enjoyment of a show or let it ruin it for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I just realized that once you get more into the series that the “C.H.U.M.S.” scene in Season 5 episode 13 of Glee will make so much more since and will be even funnier for you.

Jill

You were so focused on the shoes on the table that you missed the Sweet n Low joke - how she would steal them from restaurants "and even our house." I grew up with laugh track shows so I don't even notice them. If they were taken out it would feel weird - like how weird it is to shop in a store that doesn't have music playing. It's a whole different vibe. The joke about Chandler being gay is because it wasn't set in stone originally. Lisa Kudrow said in an interview that she thought the character was in the beginning and David Crane (the co-creator) once said “We didn’t go into this determined that Chandler would be straight. If we had cast a different actor – who was gay – there was the option that we would have taken the character in that direction.”

Nicole M

I agree with everyone about the live audience adding to that 90s sitcom vibe, but there are also some really funny edits on youtube that are scenes from friends without the laughter and they're so awkward because of all the pauses they take. once you get to an episode that has a good edit I will comment the link!

OH! Just a heads up. Carol, Ross’ ex wife (the one that’s a lesbian) shows up in the next episode (episode 9). She is played by a different actress. The previous one they had was only in one episode of the series before they decided on somebody different. The new Carol is the one they used throughout the rest of the series. I just wanted to save you that confusion because I knew you’d probably question that when you saw it. The first few episodes of any first season of a show is when they will make those changes, but the actress that they ultimately decided on was the best for that role and I know you’ll see it that way, but just a little heads up. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love the live audience. I definitely prefer that over a generic prerecorded laugh track. I also agree with you that I love the random loud cackles and laughs that stick out. It shows it’s authentic. ❤️ Speaking of laughing you should definitely watch the bloopers. They’re hilarious. They show some of them in the Friends Reunion special on Max. ❤️

RuthGA

I grew up with the laughter. I remember most sitcoms had the laughing track or a live audience when I was growing up and it never bothered me, so I would not take it away. Although there have been times that I'll watch it with someone who hates the laughter and they'll constantly point it out, that's when I get annoyed, but when I'm watching it by myself i don't even notice it. It is really funny when you can hear someone in the audience dying of laughter because of a certain line or scene

Madeline Jensen

I don't mind the laughing in the background. As many said before, at least with this kind of show, I have gotten used to it and kind of just tune it out. I think it would be different if they took the laughter out, I don't think it would feel right if they did that.

Natasha Whitaker

I honestly didn’t really notice it after the first couple of episodes. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mary

I don’t mind the laughing in the background. Like you said. Sometimes it adds to the joke.

I'm so glad to see you really enjoying Friends so far! Normally I hate a laugh track but for some reason in Friends, I enjoy it!! I wouldn't get rid of it! No way!
