"I think math is sexy" has become my catchphrase

Sabrina Louis

Mario's "She's so sexy, I can see it" will forever be funny to me 😂😂😂

One thing about Charlie I think people forget is that he's on the autism spectrum. So yeah, there are a lot of boundaries that are sometimes hard to navigate, change in direction can be hard, etc. I'm in the same boat so I get where Charlie's coming from a lot of the time. I agree that he does need to learn where the line is sometimes, but that comes in time. Ultimately I think it's a good learning experience for the Zach, Nikki, Robert, etc on how to work with someone who is neurodivergent, and not just in the more "commonly" known ways like anxiety.

Lydia Shepard

Artie is the name of the character you were looking for. My favorite in this episode was definitely Nellie. Rewatching this now I am loving Charlie even more than I did when this first aired. It was only mentioned once and Charlie never uses it as an excuse so I think the judges all forget that he has ADHD and is on the autism spectrum. He is someone who has a disability but doesn't use it as an excuse and he doesn't let the disability define who he is or what he can do. Every last chance performance song he does is amazing!!!!!! I do think that the judges should have been reminded of him having ADHD and being on the spectrum as maybe they could have helped guide him a little more becuase I do think that some of the things he did was more due to him being on the spectrum rather than ADHD or anything and the judges just seem to think he is hard to work with since he wants to do everyone's job. Maybe Eric White didn't know about Charlie too because he seemed to have no patience with him during the shoot.

I did a musical last spring where the ensemble had to dance sexy/sultry in pretty much every number and it was SO uncomfortable for me. I wish I had seen this episode earlier so I could be inspired to channel my inner Nellie because she BROUGHT IT. I was worried for her in dance rehearsal but when the shoot came around it was all there. Lily as well! That pencil bite had me screaming. 😂 My bottom 3 and elimination would be the same as what actually occurred on the show.

Nellie was absolute sunshine in the best way this episode. I adored every second of her! I was pleasantly charmed by Lily this week too. Tyler, sweet Tyler. I think this is the first time an elimination made me bawl...especially when I saw Abraham break down. Abraham by the way, WOW! He killed it this week. I think I personally would have went with the what the show did this week in terms of bottom 3 and elimination

at first i thought they were playing up the charlie and aylin relationship for ratings and that it was fake until i looked it up and they actually dated and she said about 2 years ago that they still keep in touch which i think is nice

i would love to hear what tyler sounds like now, now that it’s been years since he transitioned and is more comfortable in his voice

I remember being really upset when I was younger and originally watching and seeing Tyler get sent home. However now that I'm older and have gone through HRT myself I get it and agree. HRT can be hard to get used to and going into this kind of competition only 6-7 months into it is going to be hard. It's not easy to feel like you're comfortable in your skin that first year as the changes are happening. Seems like Tyler did pretty good for themselves afterwards though. Also for Shanna (or Harper as she goes by now) I wonder if her seeming so uncomfortable with the sexuality theme is the fact that she was struggling with her own sexuality at the time. I haven't seen anything where she uses a label to describe her sexuality but she's not straight.

Gigi

Sooo great to see Naya!! also love Nellie, she's always been my fav contestant on the show!

My favorites this week (and overall) are Nellie and Abraham. They were amazing! She unlocked a part of herself that she never allowed to shine before and her vocal tone is addicting! Blake did great too but we all know why it’s hard to put him as a favorite. I agree that he is very talented but wasn’t the most memorable character. Though I do think that out of the GP winners, his character had the most depth, emotion, and hard-hitting storylines. So at least he got to show of his acting skills more than Samual or Damion did. My bottom 3 is the same as yours. Ali is like this season Samual Larson. Good but a bit of a one-trick-pony and just seems to scrap by. Though I like her more. Michael is the most forgettable one to me. I forgot he’s there until his confessional pops up and once it took me a minute to remember him. I really like Taylor and his potential character is great. He definitely would be fun for the show, but he is simply not ready. If he was a couple of years into his transition, it might be different. Overall, almost everyone did really well. It was less cringy than I was expecting. I’m but confused in next episode’s challenge but I guess it’s to show off their versatility? Also does anyone else feel like that they didn’t give the mentors a lot of screen time with the expectation of Lea?

Liv Heskett

So next week is adaptability which means they are going to throw things at them and see if they can work under pressure.

My homework assignment winner: Michael or Shanna (though I loved Mario's little laugh) My top 3: Nellie, Blake and Charlie My #1 overall: Nellie My bottom 3: Tyler, Michael and Ali Who I would have cut: Tyler Who I would have cut from their bottom 3: Tyler I already loved Nellie before this but she really sold it this episode. I also think it helped her to have Blake as her partner in the music video, he's easily the best actor and seems to have chemistry with everyone. I just loved Nellie back when I first watched it and I still do. Charlie is really starting to impress me, especially with the LCP. He definitely went too far in the video shoot but I also disagree that he was "distracted" in the recording studio. He was actually using his real life to boost his performance instead of acting and he sounded great. If anything, I feel like focusing on Aylin just made him better. Am I the only one who thinks Nikki sometimes comes off as unlikable? Something about her just rubs me the wrong way. Though she does have some good points sometimes. I felt so bad for Michael in his LCP but I think how he handled it saved him. Everybody makes mistakes and forgets lyrics but I think if you are able to recover and even laugh at yourself, that is more important than being "perfect". Also he's just so cute. I HATE math but I wish I had someone like him to teach me 😍😂 And I agree about Tyler 100%. Tyler now identifies as non-binary and has become an outspoken advocate for the trans and non-binary community. They gained national attention when Miley Cyrus brought them as her date to The Foundation for AIDS Research (AMFAR) gala in 2015 and has since worked with Miley's Happy Hippie Foundation, along with their friend Ariana Grande. They appeared in Ariana's music video for Positions and Faint of Heart by Tegan & Sara. They are also a writer/editor for 'them' magazine, have voiced a non-binary character on Amazon Prime Video’s Danger & Eggs and were the Grand Marshal of New York’s Pride parade in 2018. Shanna later said that she came out as a lesbian on stage in this episode but it was cut (which she was grateful for because she hadn't come out to her family yet). Cory and Naya being the guest mentor back-to-back was a lot 💔 Also, the teacher in the music video is Mary Gillis who played a teacher on Glee.

Shanna/Harper later said that she actually came out as a lesbian on stage in this episode but it was cut (which she was grateful for because she hadn't come out to her family yet).

Jay Johnston

Oh I hadn't seen that! Thanks for the info

Lu

i agree about the charlie and “not being so professional” thing. i understand it’s not always seen as professional but if it’s what motivates him and helps him to deliver his performance great ( which it did ) then i don’t see the issue either. if it was affecting him badly then i would get it, but it’s not

Sabrina Louis

Tyler is non binary now. Their IG handle is Tywrent. They have a video from a while back where they sing with Ariana Grande

Andy Funke

Here's my opinion on the Charlie in the booth thing. I'm kinda in the middle between you and Nikki on whether it was unprofessional or not. My problem is that it doesn't seem like that was Nikki's opinion at the time it happened. If it was, I feel like she was contributing to the unprofessionalism by pressing him about it and actually looking to see it was Aylin. If she feels like that's not okay in the recording booth, she should have brought it up at that time. More likely IMO, I feel like production changed her mind about it after it happened to add to the story line of why he was bottom 3 despite the fact that the way he acted during the shoot was enough for the storyline?
