Woo hoo!

Shani Gribben

Patti Smith and Dylan Thomas are poets

Shani Gribben

I’m not a superfan sadly but hopefully someone pointed out that 2 of the scientists in the Fortnight music video are played by Josh Charles and Ethan Hawke who appeared in the film Dead Poets Department

Shani Gribben

For track 3, I think the other song you’re thinking of is Blank Space

Shani Gribben

I don’t drink whiskey but I love Jamie’s shirt

Erica Clements

I'm so glad you're loving this album so far!! I'm literally obsessed!! Get feeling better lady! 🥰

Ems

"She drives me crazy!" Fine Young Cannibals

Andrea

SO glad you loved But Daddy I Love Him. 😍 When I first heard it I thought—ooh, Audrey’s going to have fun with this one!! 😂 I’ve been belting and dancing to it all week. Obsessed with it!! And yes, you mentioned Romeo & Juliet—I’ve seen people calling this song a grown up version of Love Story from Fearless. 🤍 Oh, and the “sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see” strikes me as her calling out the posts on social media from some “fans” who were critiquing her for being in that relationship—that’s also where the “ruining her good name” and “needing to be saved” references come from—at least in my interpretation. Really love this album and am excited for you to hear the rest! Glad you’re taking care of yourself along the way. It’s excited to have several parts to look forward to!

Aloha Record Sargent

Oh totally! In my mind, "Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see" = the "Speak Up Now" letter. And don't you think it's kind of fun that the song is done in older Taylor style, maybe emphasizing the Speak Now part of Speak Up Now (if that makes any sense). Regardless, she is definitely trolling everyone here, and I love it!

Andrea

Yesss!! So true! Ah, so well played, Taylor! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Heida

There's a seperate video of her reacting to the music video 😉

Shani Gribben

I feel like the background beat was meant to be a heartbeat but sped up which could be why Audrey’s heart was racing listening to it

Matt

Your sips say a lot about your anxiety and the breath work you need to do... hate to say it. but want to lower that stress!

Eimi Galvan

I think you mean INXS, and yes i hear it too!

Sarah from Motown

To cast this to TV via 1)Open Chrome 2)Open Patreon 3)Once in video you will get the Chromecast icon in Patreon as usual. I have no idea why its gone from the Patreon app. hummm

Meghan

I love the rhythmic changes she does and was excited to see you point them out! I am actually really liking this album.

Allie

Patti Smith’s debut album came out in 1975, fun fact

Krie

I love your reviews. So much fun and insight. Even a little floaty you pick up on so much so fast. Rest and recover well 🫶🏼

Marissa Kauffman

Loved this! Your makeup looks really pretty. 🫶 Hope you continue to recover well!

SongsFromASuitcase

Wait! It was She Drives Me Crazy from Fine Young cannibals. But yes I totally hear INXS vibes as well!

SongsFromASuitcase

I will be reacting to the song towards the end of the album and you will also get the highlights from the music video on YouTube

Theo DePina

Where's the video? Or is it coming at a later time?

Jenn C

I love that shirt!!! Two of my favorite things....drinking whiskey and petting dogs ❤️🥃🐶

Bison Matt

‘She Drives Me Crazy’ is exactly what I was getting while you were comparing the rhythm during your reaction!

Heida

It's on the Super Fans tier so if you're not a Super Fan you won't see it (except the cut down YouTube version).

LanaJulie33

I LOVE the Postal Service!! Throwback to high school 🤍

Mary

Patty Smith is also a songwriter and singer as well

Mary

Hoping you are taking the time to rest and recover. We can wait.🫶🏼

It seems like a lot of this album is about Matty Healy (the lead singer of The 1975) who she dated briefly in 2014 then she dated again very publicly for a few weeks last year after her relationship with Joe ended. Some fans found Matty to be problematic and were very vocal about it which seems to be what caused that relationship to end. But Daddy I Love Him seems to be about how the fans reacted to her relationship with Matty.

✨Megan✨

Glad someone else wrote all this down. 😂 I can't believe she didn't know Dylan Thomas! Audrey!!! 🫢 Lmao…I could let you slide on Patti Smith…or even The Chelsea (although even that’s a tough one to drop, as well.) But, Dylan f***ing Thomas! That's it! The H.S. English Lit. teacher is coming out in me, so I’ll need an address, Mizz Audrey, so I can send you some wonderful classic books and beautiful works of poetry! Jeezus…Doesn't know Dylan Thomas…🤦🏻‍♀️ Lol! 😂 You know I love you, Audrey. This is just me being your resident pain in the ass! 💕 I hope you're getting plenty of rest, but it's wonderful to see you back!

Camryn

You are very fun drugged up 😂

Tiffany

Can’t wait for part 2!

Tanya

I feel like there’s more about Matty Healy on here then there is about Joe 🤷‍♀️

beth

Someone wrote this about the album and it makes a lot of sense: "The Tortured Poets Department is the most Taylor Swift album she's ever put out. It's the culmination of everything she's ever done. It's the teenage petulance of Debut. It's the hope and naïveté of Fearless. It's the lack of filter of Speak Now. It's the emotional roller coaster of Red. It's the pride of 1989. It's the angst and the rebirth of Lover. It's the storytelling and literary allusions of folklore and evermore. It's the dark reminiscence of Midnights. Which is why I think it's resonating more with those who have been here the whole time and can see the echoes of each era in this album." -posted by guyonthechiefs (on Tumblr)

Cody M

She said in the Patreon community chat that it'll be the last song on the album reaction

Cody M

I like it being released in parts - partially for my sanity (So I don't binge a 6 hour video) and partially because it's easier to have a 1 hour chunk to watch

Michelle Wilhelm

Loved Part 1. Can’t wait until Part 2! Any idea when we may receive it?

Jay Johnston

She's recovering from surgery so is filming whenever she feels up to it. That means no set schedule though

Dylan Thomas is a 20th century Welsh poet probably best known for his poem, "Do not Go Gentle into that Good Night." "(Rage, rage against the dying of the light.)" Patti Smith is a still active 77-year-old singer, songwriter, poet, painter, and author who broke out nationally in 1975 as a New York City-based punk rocker.

LadyQ

The drums at the end of MYOBHFT are almost identical to the drums of the song "the city" by the 1975... Which happens to be the song she covered when she made a special appearance to perform at one of their concerts in January of 2023

LadyQ

The beat from "so long London" is almost identical to "call it what you want."

Tyler ✨

Yesss, the beat drop at the beginning of So Long London is veryyyy CIWYW right before she says "my castle crumbled over night"

Tyler ✨

I know you wished the production on "Down Bad" was more thug lol, but I think the reason the soft, light, airy production works so well is because the song (lyrically) is basically using alien abduction as a metaphor for this relationship that she was in at the time. It's meant to feel weightless, almost as if gravity has been pulled out from underneath you. It makes you feel like you've been "beamed up" into space. "Did you really beam me up / In a cloud of sparkling dust / Just to do experiments on / Tell me I was the Chosen One / Then send me back where I came from / For a moment I knew cosmic love." So, this guy esentially took her to another planet filled with romantic wonder and then just dropped her back down on earth. That's why she's "down bad", "staring up at the ship." 👽🛸 A lot of these songs are rooted in metaphor to tell stories and I think it took everyone a minute to really fathom the lyrics and understand how the production choices were perfect for the stories being told. PS - Love you Audrey!!! Hope you're feeling better now. 🖤🤍

Nie

OMG YES!!! Someone else who hears The Postal Services & Death Cab for Cutie 2000s sound. I've been screaming this to anyone who will listen. 😆😆😆

Ramona

Dylan Thomas is a 20th century poet; Patti Smith singer/songwriter/poet; Chelsea Hotel where Thomas and other artists stayed.

Matt

For Down Bad, I'm adding my guess for the implied word in this line you pointed out (in brackets below): "I loved your hostile takeovers Encounters closer and closer All your indecent exposures How dare you say that it's" - [over]

Tionne✨

Not sure if anyone has told you this yet but I feel the need to since you're a Swiftie now. Jack who she is talking about in The Tortured Poets Department is Jack Antonoff. He works closely with Taylor as her main music producer. He's been with her since 1989 dropped back in 2014 and since then has worked on every album with Taylor. He did most of the songs on this album, Midnights, reputation, as well as doing a good amount on Lover and folklore. He worked on 1989 and evermore, but not as much as the other albums. He was a member of the group fun and is a current member of The Bleachers. He also produces a lot of Lana Del Rey's newer music. Not only is he a producer for Taylor though, but he is also one of her best friends. She confides in Jack a lot and he has been there for Taylor throughout so much honestly and is one of her only real friends in the industry. I thought that shout out to him in this song was very nice since they're not only songwriting & music partners, but also best friends.

ElleBelle

I'm not recommending anyone be on substances while watching this however I can confirm that it is extremely entertaining to watch this reaction post surgery/procedure (on medication) to be on the same level as Audrey so to speak lol

bre

It actually sounds like Alice in Chains- Angry chair

Erin Snow

Dylan Thomas and Patti Thomas were famous poets and writers. The Chelsea hotel was a place that a lot of artists and writers used to live at and work at. It was shabby and a bit rundown, giving it that very arty environment
