I’ll Stand by You hits so much harder knowing Mercedes sang it for Finn during The Quarterback episode. 💔

Lydia Shepard

I watched this episode last night before watching this rewatch and when I saw it I was 1000% disagreeing with what Merecedes was telling Puck. As Puck is the father and should be the one doing things with and for Quinn during this time not to mention how completely unfair all of this is to Finn who innocently thinks he is the father and is trying to do the right thing but constantly getting yelled at by Quinn.

Carole (Finn's mum) is the best. No wonder she and Burt, the best parents on the show, ended up together. But also, Romy Rosemont is just one hell of an actress. The actors who play Quinn's parents were great too, especially the dad. That whole thing just reminds me of my family, where on the outside we were this "perfect" Christian family but on the inside it was so dysfunctional and abusive. It made me understand and have empathy for Quinn even though I hated what she was doing to Finn. I think Dianna's acting is so great in the scene with her parents too. This episode was actually her submission for the Emmy Awards but her nomination failed to make the final cut, which is a shame. Rachel having a crush on Will is even creepier (and somehow funnier at the same time) when you know that Lea and Matthew used to date 🤣 Of course the actors are closer in age and it wasn't a teacher/student thing IRL but still... And I was too disappointed in Mercedes but like you said, we have to remember these ARE just kids. Fun facts: Dianna and Cory knew they were singing Lean On Me but hadn't heard it as they were not allowed to attend rehearsals, so this is their genuine reaction. Also, during You're Having My Baby, Dianna kept laughing which made Cory forget his lines 🤣 Sarah Drew (Suzy Pepper) was on Grey's Anatomy when Matthew guest starred as an abusive husband (though not of her character). Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) currently stars on the show.

So Sarah Drew who played Suzy Pepper was in Grey's Anatomy and now Harry Shum Jr who plays Mike is in Grey's Anatomy. Also Mathew Morrison who played Mr Shue was also in a couple episodes of Grey's

Samir

Anyone who watched Grey’s anatomy knows why this episode is so weird 😂😂 Suzzy Pepper is trauma surgeon Dr April Kepner 😂😂😂😂

Samir

OMG I had forgotten about Matthew 😂😭 he was creepy as hell

Finn's mom is the best! It definitely hits more now that I am a mom than it did when it first aired. But that reaction is so heart wrenching. Trying to hold it together for him, but also breaking just a little bit. Ugh. The acting is just so good.

lean on me always makes me cry whenever i think of the glee cast i always think of that performance cause you can really feel the love they all had for each other before everything became really big

I get where Mercedes is coming from. She’s trying to be a good supportive friend for Quinn and respect her reasons for claiming that Finn is the father. I’m sure she probably doesn’t agree with Quinn’s decision, but she recognizes that it’s not her place to make Quinn tell Finn the truth since they aren’t super close friends. Not going to stop her from accidentally letting the cat out of the bag to others but her heart’s in the right place.

Lydia Shepard

I get Mercedes being supportive of Quinn but it just seems like no one is looking out for Finn. Finn is going through a lot when he shouldn't have to since he is not the father. I hate how he finds out as it should have been Quinn to tell him and if not Quinn then Puck would have been a better choice for him finding out but it seems like no one is really looking out for Finn and how this is affecting him. I get that people are looking out for Quinn and that she is going through a lot but Finn is going through something he shouldn't have to go through since he is not the father. And if he wasn't told when he was told he probably would never found out since I don't believe Quinn or Puck would have ever told him the truth.

I really forgot she was in the show 😭 all I saw was April lol

I’m surprised Dianna never got an Emmy nomination. Or any award nomination for that matter. (That I’m aware of.) This episode was definitely worthy of a submission in that regard. All of the actors who roles really counted never got Emmy wins. So disappointing. ☹️ That scene of Quinn getting kicked out is definitely one of the most powerful scenes in the entire show. The acting to the dialogue to the lack of background music was perfect! Kurt doesn’t exactly act like a saint in this storyline, which extends to the Home episode after sectionals. But the character still gets major hate to this day for the way he acted, and people forget about Rachel’s extreme behavior to Will in the same episode and to Finns relationships overall! For those wanting to see a more inside perspective of the Kurt thing, look up the Q&A glee panel under Chris defending Kurt. A fan asks a question regarding Kurt’s behavior and Chris’s answer is amazing and eye-opening. Episode fun fact: Lyrics for the song Young Girl was changed to fit the glee scenario because the OG was more….inappropriate. Also one of the few times Kurt’s mom is mentioned. It’s a crime that we get Finns dad fleshed out but never Kurt’s mom.

Rheannon

They really wanted to write Quinn as strictly a mean girl but Dianna really brought complexity that she needed 👏🏻 that’s why so many people actually like Quinn and wish she had gotten written better in later seasons

Rheannon

Also I feel like no one talks about how Finn really didn’t have a right to tell Quinn’s parents :/ especially considering how they treat her

Martina Mendola

This episode reminded me that Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison actually dated before Glee even started lol

Jake Sullivan

I’m just gonna say calling Lea Michele mildly attractive is ridiculous hahah

SongsFromASuitcase

I would love even a spin off of their parents. Just want to hug them both

Nate

The thing that gets me with Finn's mom - you can see the pain in her face when she hugs him. You know she had to be thinking "Oh my gosh, my baby is going to be a father way too soon - he's going to struggle raising a kid at a young age" and the sadness that brought her. But what I find touching is that she put that aside - put her own feelings aside to be there for him. She put her son first and reassured him that it was going to be okay, even though she was likely having doubts that it would be okay herself. That's true love. Contrast that to Quinn's parents - they made it all about them and their hurt feelings - they put their daughter last. That's so very sad.
