Karley Harper

I would think that she is spraying herself with the Opalite because she thinks that she is the problem in the relationship.

Taylor sprays herself because she believes that she is the problem......hi, im the problem its me

Aastha Sharma

This is such a quintessential Taylor video; funny and dorky but also so much emotional trauma layered underneath it all. The rock and cactus most likely representing both Taylor and Travis's exes. The guy sprays the opalite on the cactus while Taylor sprays it on herself. The ad in the beginning says it turns “crappiness into happiness” so she thought *she* was the problem 🥺 it was easier for the man to see the issue bc the cactus was hurting him every second, but for the woman how could something that does nothing be the problem, so she chose to fix herself rather than the rock. Maybe also tying into Anti Hero and Taylor for real feeling like she is the problem. There are so many little metaphors and symbolisms tying to previous albums like Taylor tying the red string with the rock aka invisble string, the rock toy box saying my best friend and children's swings-> TTPD, saving a seat for the rock -> Lover. Every shot has so many layers to it. She is closing herself off to new human connections at the bar because she has a “rock” to take care of, even though it can’t be bothered with receiving her care, let alone reciprocating it. But instantly being friends with the photographer when she is finally with the right person.

And that last clip of her on the Graham Norton show was the EXACT moment that the idea popped into her head to make the music video and have ALL of them that were on the show in the music video.

I must be the only one who doesn't think the dance is anything like the friends dance at all. They are 2 completely different dances to me.

See no one is mentioning that Opalite is a synthetic manmade imitation of an Opal and that “Opalite” creates synthetic happiness. I try not to dissect who the song is about in Taylor’s life because we will never know and because that can limit my ability to stay open to multiple interpretations. I will say that in the two BTS videos, she did say that “Lonely Girl” and the “Rock” were best friends who were in love and that “Lonely Girl” and the “Rock” sing karaoke on their girls night and that the “Cactus” was a toxic girlfriend. Something to always always keep in mind it that Taylor Alison Swift lies, just like the Doctor.

Annie Willow

I think it’s much closer to the ME! Music video dance. Very much the same vibes.

this is what I said on twitter: the ad in the beginning says it turns “crappiness into happiness” so she thought *she* was the problem 🥺 it was easier for the man to see the issue bc the cactus was hurting him every second, but for the woman how could something that does nothing be the problem?? btw I LOVED this music video and it’s seriously competing for the top spot for my favorite taylor swift music video.

sini

did we watch the same thing? 🤣🤣🤣

Audrey, you look fabulous

Robert Thompson

guess you're too young to remember, Audrey ---- the green color is called "toxic green." It's what they used for the 1950's and 1960's Superman series for Kryptonite on color TVs, once we got them. 🤣

Robert Thompson

I'm the problem, it's ME! 🤣 This is almost as campy as her ME! video, too.

Robert Thompson

Not what she said about the rock in the BTS; she said inanimate objects represent relationships, and the rock was "always weighing me down." She's talking about the bar and "girl's night out" with the rock, bc she's describing the singer --- who takes their boyfriend to their "girls' night out"? whole point is, she's damn lonely. And she drives off the girls who might have been new friends, to stay with the thing that doesn't respond in any way. As toxic as the cactus. "who the song is about in Taylor’s life because we will never know" actually, I respect this concept for a lot of her music; too many people read into her lyrics what they want. but this song is not only obvious, she's said as much in the podcast she did on New Heights.

Robert Thompson

Why use Opalite on your pets? Pets can act up. A friend of mine ticked off one of his cats (a black Himalayan) and it waited until he went to work, then pissed on his pillow. Taylor once did a trip back to the Tennessee castle location where they filmed "Love Story" ---- and her Mom's Great Dane (Kitty) nearly dragged her down the stone steps. A very looong set of stone steps. She sent the dog back to Mama (waiting in the parking lot) by letting go of the leash. 🤣

Ariana Herrera

she's not saying that opalite creates synthetic happiness. if you watched any of taylor's interviews when showgirl was released, she explained that yes, opalite is a "man made opal," but that symbolizes that sometimes you have to create your own happiness. that's what she had to do in her own life - she left her 6 year relationship and found her own happiness with travis.

Robert Thompson

contrast it with her ME! video; "everything that make me me" in relation to the unicorn, country western boots, etc. I think about that in relation to Anti- Hero. and that the "everybody agrees" is the same thing as "that's what people say" and "they said I did something bad". Happy for her!

Robert Thompson

sort of hilarious that you make the connection to Tolerate It, but don't notice the bartender is the dancer from Eras Tour. . . . . think he changed his hair when they dropped that song from the setlist? anyway, he has some screen time on the End of series. edit: why is she spraying herself? see: Anti Hero.

Robert Thompson

Graham Norton is doing a podcast of his own now ---- and he kept that Nope - alite bottle from the video! Had to rescue it when his cleaner tried to toss the empty bottle. . . . 🤣

Helen W

Oh, that was a delightful watch. So much richness and joy and thought. (Also, you seem like you're feeling better? Hope so!) Thanks for the great vibe.

Meghan

Noticing that she's trying to fix herself. And he's trying to fix the other person

Caitlin Green

I’m stuck on the fact that you haven’t been Harry Potter!!!!!! I need someone with more $ than me to request the movies 🤣🤣🤣

Mason Castello

I actually do agree with your point about speculating who songs are about limiting possible interpretations, but this part is wild: "we will never know" "Taylor Alison Swift lies" I'm not really sure why it's so hard to believe that Taylor is happy and in love. Because it makes SO MUCH sense for her to spend the last 3 years lying to everyone, and somehow not a single person who actually knows Taylor has said that's the case. She has stated multiple times what Opalite means and that this song is about Travis, and she is going to get married to him whether you like it or not.

Aastha Sharma

Yes she is happy she finally found her person and she doesn't care what outsiders think about her anymore.

Aastha Sharma

Rock and cactus kinda being perfect together too because the cactus can't hurt the rock with it's pricks and rock doesn't need to do anything to nourish and grow the cactus. The idea of calling it a rock is also purposeful I think because he probably was her "rock", stable relationship after the whole Kanye drama and then the very same rock became a burden weighing her down.

Robert Thompson

there is a fun watch of a remix requested by Taylor and Travis for Opalite on YT title is How I Remixed Taylor Swift "Opalite" | Chris Lake

Aastha Sharma

it's the red invisible string theory, she is trying everything to make the relationship work, even making the string herself out of her own dress.

Be Love 🩷

"I'm the problem, it's me." = She sprays herself.

DazzleFae

Nooo! We don't need to fund a transphobe please!!

I love the fact that you noticed the Harry Potter thing! I know that one you were thinking of was Ron Weasley (the main redheaded boy) but he actually PLAYS one of Ron's brothers!! So he is in Harry Potter! He plays Bill Weasley!
