unironically, the vampire diaries offers one of the best depictions of addiction i've seen on television in a long time. i'm in long term recovery and whenever i re-watch this show i always have a few "holy shit" moments when they hit the addiction nail on the head. this episode is a really good example with vicki. how the show handles traditional substance abuse (drugs + alcohol) is a whole different story lol, but i do appreciate the bloodlust as addiction storylines.

I'd never liked Vickie, and I was glad to see her go, but I do get super teary-eyed when Elena is kneeling down by her body, just thinking about what Matt's going to go through when he finds out, after he tried so hard to look out for her. Jeremy crying kills me every time, the actor is so good at expressing that pain. As far as just trusting Damon to tell Jeremy everything that Elena said, I just see it as Stephan can hear everything and would know if Damon deviated at all. I love the next episode but can't wait for you to get to episode 11... Those that know, know.

That’s not true of TVD vampires. TVD vampires are baby vamps when turned. At their weakest, though their intense emotions can cause outburst of irrational/intense violence. Stefan is simply weaker because of the animal blood. They clarify this in later seasons but I won’t say when because of spoilers.

Ok, so on the topic of watching two eps a week. I do think it valid to mention that TVD has two spinoffs with 5 seasons and 4 season all on their own. So that would mean that finishing the whole universe is 17 season, just food for thought. I am one of the Damon girlies, well if the only options are the brothers🤫. So on the power scaling, to not spoil anything ,as we have seen Stefan is weaker than Damon because he only drinks animal blood, and as you have said Damon did not want to kill Stefan in those fights and also was toying a bit with him or was weakened by different things like vervain. Vicki was trying to kill anything in her frenzy and Stefan just wanted to control and not kill her so it all sort of makes sense😅.

Yeaaaah... Bye Vic! she was a real brat this episode and tbh I did not care for her character that much, and every time I rewatch the show I still don't. I hope Damon becomes your new Regina but we will see - he is a very complex character but I love love love him, I always will I think. I think Ian Somerhalder plays him very very well, the cheeky grins, the catty/ funny lines and sheer sexiness - woah nom nom lol 😂

I have watched this show fully through at least twice before and I feel like I have amnesia as I’m watching it with you. I don’t remember a thing. So this is pretty fun for me. From what I remember my favorite seasons are like 3-5. My favorite character of this entire series is introduced in season three and she’s actually the reason why I started watching the show. She was in a different show that I watched growing up called H2O: Just Add Water, which was a live action Australian teen show about mermaids…( I still watch it now at 19) she is a completely different character in that one so I can’t wait for you to meet her because I have a feeling you’re gonna like her and her attitude💅🏾😏

To your question about Matt and vicky being so opposing character wise- i guess it’s a bit of nature vs nurture. They are two different people put in the same situation and grow up differently. I know some crime shows have that with brothers where one becomes the murderer delinquent criminal etc and the other is a lawyer or cop or teacher- often giving back to community or overly empathetic etc etc. it’s like the one sibling makes up for the other one. He was also the brother and they are only a year apart i think so even with her older he would have been the “man of the house” the one to protect and care.

I saw someone had commented about Nina (Elena) and Paul (Stefan) not liking each when filming the first couple seasons they ended up getting their problems settled and are now really good friends. Also Paul (Stefan) and Ian (Damon) own a bourbon company. Nina and Ian dated for like three years and then he ended up marrying Nikki Reed who played Rosalie from twilight.

Okay, with the whole BDSM fetish, I’m like 50-50. While I can’t see myself in those situations, I actually really like 50 Shades of Grey. I don’t like the spanking or any of the punishment. I don’t see how someone who supposedly loves you or cares for you would want to cause you pain. (Spoiler if you haven’t seen the 50 Shades series). When Christian puts Ana (sp?) on the table and makes her count the whips, and she’s got silent tears as she’s counting, my heart broke for her. Like, I know she was curious and wanted to see what the worst could be like, I don’t think she was anywhere prepared for what she got. And the fact that Christian was aroused by the punishment just doesn’t sit well with me. I mean, I’m not opposed to a little bit of choking or being restrained. I’m not talking like being spread eagle with my hands and feet tied to the bed, but I do think it’s really sexy when my hands are held down above my head, or when my husband puts his hand around my neck and applies a little bit of pressure. Idk what it is, maybe the lack of oxygen, but I personally think it makes the climax more pleasurable. (Sorry for the TMI!) Also, I don’t mind a little bite on the neck or the earlobe. I get chills from the feel of the teeth kinda scraping against my skin. So, I do understand the biting on the neck. But, the way that TVD portrayed it with Damon and Caroline, it was meant to be painful. He seduced her and while she was feeling pleasure from being aroused, and her serotonin levels were high, Damon saw an opportunity to take advantage and went to town. It’s also like when Katherine fed on Stefan. You could see the fear in his eyes, but his adrenaline and serotonin were so high, he let it happen. When both Caroline and Stefan woke up the next morning, they realized “oh, shit! They just sucked my blood!”. Hence, the mind compulsion. And, I do believe compulsion is the right word for it, because the person that’s being compelled has no control over it happening. Like how you explained it, that people who are compulsive have no control over whatever they’re doing, it’s the same with how vampires are able to control the victim’s mind. It’s just that the vampire is in control instead of whatever thing a person does (like biting their nails, or playing with their hair, or having OCD, etc.). That’s why Vicki liked it so much. Even though, at first, she screamed and was in pain, Damon compelled her and made her think the blood was almost like a drug and she loved it. That’s why she asked for another “hit”. The one thing I do like about Stefan is that he gave Elena the vervain necklace. Because he knows how it feels to have his choices taken away, he wanted to make sure no matter what, Elena was free to make her own decisions.
