Karley Harper

Maybe Lorelei didn't care about Dean being there because she trusts Rory and it was before curfew. Yea, it does seem a little weird that Lorelei didn't get upset about that but she has gotten upset about other things that maybe weren't as serious like when Rory didn't tell Lorelei that she kissed a boy. It seems like it depends what kind of mood Lorelei is in, maybe since she was with Luke, she wasn't as strict because she was happy and having a good time. My mind would have immediately thought that they were role playing or something because she was dressed up in a costume, and I would have thought the worst because my daughter didn't tell me he was coming over so I would think that they were trying to hide it.

I never understood why Lorelai wouldn't admit she had feelings for Luke; it was obvious it was mutual. I wonder if she was afraid of ruin their friendship or something.

Annie Willow

I think Lorelai was completely oblivious to the fact that she and Luke have a relationship that is beyond just friends, it’s easy and comfortable so she never questioned it or her feelings until Sookie and her mom made her look inward. Now with Christopher, they never got married, which it still a huge sticking point with Emily and Richard. He’s the ‘good boy that she let get away’ even though he got her pregnant at 16.

I am so excited for the next episode like I cannot wait to see how the dynamic works with Christopher because this will obviously be the first time that we get to see all of them together. Now, talking about this episode, I have to say I don’t know if they were trying to address feminism in this episode or if it was just supposed to be like a “funny” thing, but if they were, I think they did it very wrong. To begin you can definitely see how the upbringing of both Rory and Dean had an effect on their views of the topic. Dean talked about how his mother always made dinner and meals and even started doing it on the weekends so you know Dean was just used to that kind of lifestyle whereas Rory grew up with a single mother who worked and as we’ve seen clearly doesn’t cook so that idea of being a housewife was very foreign, strange, oppressive to her. But the way that the show portrayed that definitely didn’t do it justice because it just made Rory seem like she was blowing things way out of proportion which she was, but I think Dean also had a misunderstanding of the whole idea as well. The whole point that I believe Rory was trying to make was during the time in which the Donna Reed show was created was a big time; when women were only really housewives and that’s all they were and some of them not because they wanted to, but because it was what was expected of them. That’s what I think Rory was trying to get across to Dean while yelling at him (not saying that that was the correct way to handle it). But even in that argument, she was talking about how Dean’s mom wanted to cook and take on the more housewife role. And though yes, after research Rory found out that Donna Reed was an unaccredited producer and director of her own show, which was amazing at that time that she was even able to have those roles it’s the fact of her being unaccredited that proves the point that during that time period Women were pretty much only housewives and we’re expected to be housewives and nothing else. So I don’t think in this instance, the Donna Reed show was supposed to be showing a woman who wanted to be a housewife. It was more showing what was expected during that time, and how misogynistic of a time period it was by the fact that she was unaccredited, so when Dean made his comment about not seeing what was wrong about it that’s what caused both Lorelai and Rory to be offended. As for the Luke based parts of this episode, I have to say it was a little strange just in the way that I felt like the way they portrayed Luke in this episode did not fit with his character. Like his dad owned a hardware store for most of his life and he had said that even helped his dad out in the store when he was younger but somehow now he doesn’t know how much paint he’s gonna need or what painting supplies they needed I mean he talked about how the store owner who sold the paint had to recommend all the equipment that they would need for painting. And even though yes he was not a painter. I feel like his dad owning a hardware store he would learn a little bit more about that topic. Now, I’m not saying he has to be an expert, but I just felt like they made him really dumb on the topic.

Think Lorelai didn’t talk with Rory about Dean because she trust her. She know that Rory is careful. Also about Luke. Maybe she is afraid that the feelings can destory their friendship. What if they have sex, then it will be awkward. They see each other every single day

Tereza

And I have to say, I have bad feelings about Chris. I don’t know the history, but they have kid together and he doesn’t live with them? Or in the same town? Why? And why we didn’t hear about him earlier? He doesn’t call Rory?

Alicia

Who hasn't thrown their life away for a hot guy on a motorcycle? No? Just me?

Elizabeth

Because at this point she’s never really been in a serious relationship outside of Rory’s dad. Max was the first one and we saw her freak out as soon as it got serious. I think, subconsciously at least, she knows dating someone from her small town she would have to be pretty serious with them and she maybe isn’t ready for that. So she kind of just viewed him as an automatic no and put the idea out of her head and didn’t let herself even think about it.

Elizabeth

“Nice shirt, take it off” I’m sorry but ick! 🤣🤣🤣

He is mentioned in the episode about Rory’s 16th birthday. In that episode, Lorelai says that he lives in California, that he sometimes calls Rory, and that they see him on some Easters and Christmases. But now that he is introduced, you’ll get to see more of this dynamic and their relationship.

Lol Loreli wasnt ditching Luke in the painting. He wasnt going to paint that night. They most likely do not have the paint yet... plus he has to take everything off the walls, wash them, move stuff, put up painters tape and plastic. They were just picking out what paint color they were gonna buy. Painting is a big process 😆

Ronja

Finally you are being introduced to Christopher!!!! I have been waiting for this!!!

Kaia

I’m about to get so much hate, but I was always a Christopher girl until much, much later episodes. I think the offscreen dynamic between Lauren and Scott factored into it a lot. But Scott and David IRL are MAJOR EFFING ICK. Don’t google if you don’t want your beliefs and opinions on the characters tainted. Growing up means realizing that Emily was always right and just went about things in a way that came across as caustic. Lorelai is definitely growing up at the same time as Rory, so she’s half-child, half-adult in a lot of ways—and I think that enmeshment factors into their relationship more than I ever realized.

I was never really a fan of this episode. I do love me some Christopher, though.

Lucy

Oh here we go ...enter Christopher! It will be interesting what you think of him Audrey as there are many many opinions on him in the fandom, so yes will be good to know your thoughts throughout the episodes. I always thought Rory waaaaaaay over reacted to Dean's comment, it just goes to show what two different backgrounds can create. Dean with his traditional upbringing of mum cooking for the whole family, and Rory with her mum working full time, and never cooking proper food, and thinking it demeaning to woman. I mean it could be demeaning for women, but as you said Audrey, some woman like to cook, and that is ok. Chill out Rory!!! Lol

Yasemin

You were just introduced to the town troubadour. :)

Panda Riri

I completely agreed with Rory and Lorelai on the Donna Reed point, women clearly didn't have a choice back then and still to this day in a lot of places. "Maybe she's happy to do it" is very unlikely. Most women are not happy to be unpaid servants for men
