I agree with your point about Billy staying with Camilla. I think the ‘right thing to do’ would have been to divorce Camilla, get sober, and then come back to Daisy at a later time if they still wanted to be together. They definitely did it for Julia. I do believe Billy loved Camilla, maybe more earlier on, but not as much as he loved Daisy. He loved them in different ways. There was no chance that Billy and Daisy would have been able to be together when the band were still going, when they were both using, but I agree they were ‘soulmates’ in that sense. Though I do appreciate the fact that it was a different time, and I don’t know if Billy would have been able to divorce her and leave his family. The ending always makes me emotional, just seeing them together again, sober, happy, more mature. It was right person wrong time. I really liked the show for that reason though. It’s complicated and honest. So many stories just end with the main characters falling in love and being together, no matter what. I liked how this showed that the amount of love you might feel for someone means nothing if you don’t feel love for yourself. It’s bittersweet I guess. I’ve watched this show so many times and I always feel disappointed when Billy goes back to Camilla. I feel for Camilla so much, she probably shouldn’t have let him back in, but I suppose she knew she was never going to find a love like that again, and she never wanted Julia to not have a father. I haven’t read the book but I imagine there is a lot more to take from that too. The band were actually supposed to go on tour in real life but it was cancelled because of COVID, which sucks, because it would’ve been incredible. Thank you Clara for this request, I’ve watched Danny’s reaction too and they were both amazing. My Thursdays are now going to be very boring 😭💕

Strap in, this is about to be a LONG comment... 🤣 So, I agree that if they didn't have a kid together, Billy and Camila never would've stayed together. But I also don't think they were necessarily just together for their daughter either. I think things were far more complicated than that. They loved each other, and they wanted it to be okay and they wanted to stay together, and I think it's more like Julia gave them a reason to not give up and to fight. So maybe in a way they were together for her, but I do think it was more than that. I don't think it was obligation. But I also think pre this relapse and working through everything, Billy kind of used Camila and Julia as the only reason to stay sober. He wasn't ever sober for himself until the second time. If not for them, he would not have stayed sober as long as he did, and that's obviously not healthy. And I think that was a big reason for how desperately he was fighting for her to stay with him and when he thought she was leaving him he relapsed. He wasn't going to therapy or meetings, no one around him really understood addiction, he himself barely understood it. And so he clung to Camila because she gave him a reason to stay sober. Plus, his biggest fear was being like his father, and I think part of him probably felt like he was one step away from that if he didn't fix things with her... And I believe they would've worked through that in the 20 years they were married after all that went down and I think she was telling the truth when she said they'd had a wonderful marriage, and I do think he was telling the truth when he said she was the love of his life. (Daisy is more complicated...) But I think it's something they had to work for. A lot. Now onto the Daisy and Billy of it all. Which is a lot... I've always found Daisy's journey just from the moment Billy kisses her before the show starts up to the end of the show really interesting. Because he kissed her and she obviously knew he'd been drinking. And she was intrigued. She had never seen Billy drunk before. She'd heard about him being drunk, she knew he was an addict and had been to rehab, and he told her himself that he'd missed his daughter's birth due to being too drunk/high and going to rehab. But she'd never seen it before. And I think she was always interested in what that would be like. She wouldn't have gotten him drunk, but she wasn't going to argue against him being drunk if he'd already relapsed. So she was intrigued when he was drunk and the first thing he did was kiss her, and then they were all over each other on the stage and just overtly flirting with each other. And all throughout I think she mostly stayed intrigued, but the more time went on she got a little concerned and very confused. And then that scene happens. They're making out and she asks what's going on and he tells her Camila has left him. And he does some coke. Right there in the middle of them hooking up. And at that point everything is starting to make sense to Daisy. Camila left him, so he relapsed. He is NOT okay, and she's seeing that now. This is no longer intriguing but a little concerning, now it's just purely worrying. And him saying they're broken and can be broken together just totally snapped her out of it because she's never wanted to be broken. The idea of it has always upset her. And I think that was when she really understood what people meant when they said how alike they are. Part of her has always known, she's seen it herself. In some ways. She's never actually seen it in this way before though. The Billy she has always known has been sober, he's been determined to keep his family together, wanted what's best for the band, tried to keep her from falling off the deep end and has refused to even go to parties with the band because of the temptation of drugs and alcohol. He's still been a mess, and he's still been very flawed and she's seen that a lot, she knows who he is. But since she's known him he's had a certain amount of control over himself and the things he struggles with. Now it's all out in the open and she doesn't like what she sees. Not because she doesn't love him, or even because of him, but because she's finally really seeing herself in him. She's seeing all the things she hates in herself reflected in him. Just like he's always seen the same in her. He knew right from the start that she wasn't someone he was equipped to deal with, and very quickly he realised just how alike they are. Because he had both parts to the story, he'd seen both parts. Daisy had only really seen her part. And then she made that decision for both of them that they couldn't go on like that. She finally saw how bad they could be for each other, why Billy had been so scared of her and she recognised that they could not make each other better at that point in time, only worse. And she put an end to it for both of their sake, and sent him back to Camila because she also finally recognised the difference in their loves. Camila is much more steady and I think she was home to Billy. Daisy was more passion and electricity, and yeah, they would've destroyed each other and themselves had they been together. In the future though, when he goes to her, I think they're ready. And I think they could be what each other needs. They always were, in a way, they challenged each other in a way no one else ever did for them. But neither were okay. (I think I put my thoughts on all that much better on Danny's reaction to this episode... 🤣) I also don't think they would've gotten together had Billy and Camila divorced. I don't think Billy would've ever gone for Daisy without Camila's permission, and I don't know that Camila would've been able to give it to him if they hadn't had the life they ended up having. They healed together, and they had a great life together, and I think that in doing so Camila was able to forgive them both and then as she's dying I think she probably looked back over everything and just wanted these two people she loves both to get that closure in whatever form works for them. Whether they end up dating, whether they just become friends, whether they talk and then decide to never see each other again, or if they just write her that song. She could always see that they had something special. From before Daisy even joined the band, she was the one who was trying to convince Billy to let her join in the first place because she could see that they could make each other better. I've said it before, but I truly think that if Billy wasn't her husband, Camila would've been Billy and Daisy's biggest supporter. (Even with him being her husband, she kind of was... She just hated that it was her husband and another woman...) With Eddie, I think Billy was kind of right, but I do think Eddie had a good reason to be upset. He was always pushed to the side from the very beginning. Like, when they started the band he was the lead guitarist and the lead singer, then Billy came along and he was the lead singer and guitarist, and then Chuck left the band and Eddie was made bassist. But like you said, he should've said this sooner. Had an actual conversation about how he was feeling instead of letting it all boil up inside until he snapped and got punched in the face... I also find it quite interesting how Eddie's response to Billy's whole intro thingy to him was "Love you brother." Because he has had some serious issues with him for a LONG time, but then you look back to that very first episode and the flashback to them as kids about to start a band, they were all SO excited to have Billy be in their band. He was in awe, and so amazed by the idea of it all. I genuinely think their relationship is one of the most complicated, because I do think there's love there, and I think that's why it hurts Eddie as much as it does. Because it's not just some guy hurting him, it's someone he considers family. And that makes him hate him. (But the "Love you brother" "Go fuck yourself." ALWAYS makes me laugh. It's so funny to me...) Poor Warren was just living his best life while everyone else did their best to destroy it. I'm glad he ended up happy! Karen and Graham break my heart. It's just that realisation that they want different things out of life. No matter how much they love each other, that was never going to change. And Karen recognised that. She knew that if they stayed together, one of them would end up making a compromise that they didn't want. Either Graham would live life without kids, when he clearly really wanted them, or she would give in and have kids and be miserable. Either way, they'd be miserable. And she knew that, and I think she also knew it was much more likely that Graham would give up having kids than she would give in and have them. And it wouldn't be fair on either of them. They'd come to resent each other for "forcing" them into a life they didn't want. Always love Daisy telling her Mum to turn on the radio next time she wants to hear her voice. 😭 Good for her! And her getting sober and having a daughter! 😭 She never thought she could be a good mum because her own was so awful, but then Camila told her she thought she could and she'd be good, and then she got sober and she was able to and I very much believe she became a great mum!! Breaking that cycle. And poor Rod... These people destroyed him a little. 🤣 But I love how much he cared about them. Like, a couple episodes ago making sure Daisy ate, this episode asking Billy if he's okay. (Him answering that he's never been okay breaks me every time, but also just makes me so happy that he was being honest...) And the fact that them all breaking up made him almost quit his job because it broke his heart so much! 😭 So glad Simone said no to that record label. Asking someone to change who they are, to hide their loved ones, is just awful. And I hate how many people have done it because they see it as the only way to do what they love... It makes me so happy when Billy says he got therapy... Like, I think that might be my favourite part of the whole thing. Cuz boy did he need it! 🤣 But seriously, I do think this was the only way Daisy and Billy could've worked. I think any other way would've been so unhealthy for them and they would've been in danger of relapse. At the end, there's still always that danger for them both, but I think both are in that place in life where they have resources available if that becomes a problem. People around them understand better. And they've healed a lot. And I think they probably understand each other better than they did back in the 80s. I think they thought they understood each other back then, but I think their own issues that they were seeing in each other were stopping them from really getting each other in the way they would be able to at the end of the show with all the therapy and healing they've done...

Wow... Just looked back over the comment... Even longer than I was expecting... Sorry! 🤣

Thank you Clara for requesting this show and thank you Audrey for your reaction! I had not seen it before and truly enjoyed watching it here! I loved the music, hearing your thoughts and stories and reading all the comments. My eyes definitely stung this last episode. This is such a random, tiny ass detail but I could not stop looking at the way the drummer held his sticks. I haven’t really seen any set players hold them like that (though I’m not around many), mainly just marching band snares had that left hand grip. I was a marching band geek in high school and college. Marimba in high school then drumline (bass drum) in college. Good times haha

Gracie

thank you clara! you should definitely check out some of the bts, especially as a voice teacher. it's amazing that the two leads had no real singing experience before this.

There's no second season because it's based off a book
