I finally finished this set today, so I can finally share it with you! As I mentioned earlier, this month has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me. I have some big things happening in my life right now, and if everything goes well, I’ll be able to share those with you too. On top of that, there were so many events happening this month, so I had a lot less time to work on this set than usual.
This part still features outdoor items, but the main focus is on kids. I wanted to add some functional items for children, and I originally planned to make even more, but these ended up being a lot more work than they might seem!
The playhouse was sooo much work. I honestly can’t even remember how many days I spent on it, but it was more than a whole week just for this one item. I used the Dream Home Decorator tent as the starting point for the functionality, but I made the actual model base game compatible. This means you can use the playhouse without owning the pack, it just won’t have the option to play inside, but you’ll still be able to place things inside it.
I wanted to add more to the playhouse than just the DHD animations, so I designed the interior with some extra space in mind. I made sure to leave room for the kids to play and sleep at the front, while the pallet seating and activity table fit nicely into the back.
You’ll need to use quarter-tile placement (F5) to place the two pieces next to each other. You can also use Alt to position them wherever you like. Just keep in mind that if you want to use the house as an actual playhouse, you should leave the front part empty, where the rugs are, because that’s where the kids play and sleep.
There was also so much work happening behind the scenes with this set. I made custom footprints for both the playhouse and the garden pavilion so Sims won’t walk through them, while still allowing you to place objects underneath them.
There is one thing I unfortunately couldn’t solve: if it’s raining, these objects don’t count as shelters. I tried everything, I was experimenting with custom tuning, cloned every shelter object I could find in the game, and even those didn’t properly protect Sims from the rain. So sadly, no playing in the rain!
I managed to make the swing base game compatible, so there are no extra requirements for that one. For the bird feeder, you’ll need the Backyard Stuff Pack, and the kiddie pool requires the Seasons Expansion Pack to function. The playhouse functionality requires the Dream Home Decorator Game Pack.
I’ve checked that all of these items will still appear in your game even if you don’t own the required packs, so you can still use them as decorative objects.
I hope you’ll like this set, even if it ended up being a little smaller than I would have liked. I’m also sorry it took me so long to finish it!
I’m really excited to start working on the next part, which will still be a Charm’d set, but this time we’re going inside while staying outside at the same time. It’ll make sense soon!
Starting with this next part, I’m also bringing in more types of posts, so I’ll be sharing more structured WIPs and posts about my process. I’m really excited to show you more of what happens behind the scenes, and I hope you’ll enjoy them too!
