Collection Journal #1 (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone!
This is my first Collection Journal! As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been rethinking my WIP posts and want to make them a little more structured and in-depth. I’ll reveal more new post types as we get further into the creation process, but the first one is the Collection Journal!
At the beginning of every new set, I’ll post one of these to show you some of the inspiration I’ve gathered for the collection. I’ll also talk a little more about the idea behind it, what I’m trying to achieve, and how I’m approaching the theme. Let's start the first Collection Journal!
CHARM'D SUNROOM
A sunroom/conservatory has always been part of my plans for the Charm’d collection. When I finished the windows for the first Charm’d set, I wasn’t completely satisfied with the stained glass options, and I really wanted to revisit them.
The whole reason I was drawn to the Victorian theme in the first place was because of a beautiful stained glass window I found on Pinterest. So I knew I wanted to come back to this idea and do it properly.
Inspiration
My main inspiration obviously came from the stained glass windows, and this time I really want to embrace them. I want that feeling when the sunlight shines through the colorful glass and fills the room with a warm, cozy glow.
And what would a sunroom be without plants? I imagine this place as a little tamed jungle. Even though making CC plants is a lot of work, I really want to add some big, bushy ones, maybe even a few vines hanging from the ceiling.
I’ve also been drawing inspiration from Charmed (of course!) and Practical Magic. These two are my main references for this collection because I absolutely love the style of the houses in both. They have that magical, lived-in, cozy feeling that I really want to capture with Charm’d.
The items
I already have a few things planned that I want to add to this set. First of all, the building blocks: full-height windows and doors.
I really don’t want to regret this decision later (because I want the sunroom to be one part, but if it has to be two then okay, it'll be that, I just want to make the cool windows :D), but but I want to do the whole shabang and make curved windows too, just like the ones from my Quiet Corner collection.
I want to make some normal, simple doors for the back of the house, but I might end up designing something that works both as a back door and as a sunroom door.
The plants are also important but if I won't have enough time, I might split up the sunroom into two sets and the inside will be next.
I’m also planning to do a lattice foundation paint (that hopefully looks better than the in-game one) because someone mentioned a while ago that I should make one, and I think this set would be the perfect place to do it.
Another thing I’ve really wanted to include since the earlier parts, but always ended up leaving out, is roof cresting to decorate the roofs. Hopefully I can finally make it happen this time!
I honestly didn’t think I’d have this much to say about this set, but I guess this proves that the new post types will really help me get all my thoughts out and share them with you in more detail.
I really hope you’ll enjoy these new post types! The regular WIPs are staying too, but I’ll use those mainly to share my progress with the items, the technical stuff I’m struggling with, and things like that, pretty much how I’ve been doing them so far.
And next week, I’ll be revealing another new post type! This one will involve you a little more in the creation process, so I’m really excited to show you what I have planned.
