It appears the two-state solution is (unfortunately) more likely happening as Canadian PM is recognizing the state of Palestine but to upholster it as part of the two state solution during his time with China. He also noted the recognition of a Palestinian govt yet in the lens of the technocratic approach that the US/Tony Blair want to institute.

Just a note the term "Tankie" comes from when the left was split in the UK when the Communist Party supported the CCCP sending tanks into Budapest to suppress the Hungarian revolution in 1956. It was also used a lot to describe those who supported the suppression of Czechoslavakia in the 60e.

Queen Victoria isn’t the grandmother of Elisabeth. Her issue (children) included Victoria, who would marry Frederick III, the second German Emperor, and Edward VII, the King of England before Elisabeth’s grandfather, King George V. So that would make Victoria Elisabeth’s great-great-grandmother. Victoria is also referred to as the mother of Europe as her children would go on to marry very influential and powerful European monarchs until the fall of the monarchies in 1918

Appreciate the nuanced tankie defense. I haven't been joining the pile-on of Dropsite and have no idea of the merits of the coverage in question. I will say that "tankies" have long-standing concerns with Intercept, Ryan Grim (won't stop defending the democratic party), and other similar liberal outlets that are good on Palestine but repeat imperial narratives like zeteo and Owen Jones. I think the business with Iran has given them the chance to vent their pent-up skepticism at people who have been doing really good work lately, but who they always suspected of being untrustworthy. It is what it is.

Just want to say that "tankie" is not a new term, and doesn't come from the phrase "in the tank!" It originated in 1956 as a term for communists who supported Khrushchev's invasion of Hungary - it refers to literal tanks. In the last 70 years though, the connotation has changed really dramatically!

Czech Republic does not have universal healthcare dog, it has universal insurance. Those are not the same thing. Under the CSSR healthcare was state-funded and free at the point of use, meaning you got treated without pulling out your wallet. You guys killed that in 1992 because socialism is gay or whatever. Enjoy your premiums I guess

Yeah right. It comes straight out of your wages. It's universal health care in that regard. If you're registered unemployed you get the same healthcare. If you're a child you get the same healthcare. If you're elderly you are covered and if you require social care the same system will cover that too. If you're a disabled adult you are covered. Sounds pretty universal to me. And still no Putin or Xi Jinping!

6% of households in the Czech Republic experienced "catastrophic" health spending in 2023 according to the WHO. That's 600,000 people. In the CSSR no one even opened their wallet to get care. I'm afraid you don't know what universal healthcare is.

You wanna see the point or miss it? Go look at the USA and compare the stats. Those are minute figures in comparison. The "CIA coup" here by "the Libs" actually has a better standard of living and a stronger welfare state and healthcare than the fucking CIA ever will. And no Jinping and no Putin. Fantastic!

There was that whole thing about the Tsar and the Kaiser and the King of England being cousins. They were fucked. Kaiser Wilhelm II (Germany) & King George V (Britain): First cousins, as Wilhelm's mother was Queen Victoria's daughter, and George's father (Edward VII) was Victoria's son, making them siblings. King George V (Britain) & Tsar Nicholas II (Russia): First cousins, as George's mother (Alexandra of Denmark) and Nicholas's mother (Dagmar of Denmark) were sisters. Kaiser Wilhelm II (Germany) & Tsar Nicholas II (Russia): Third cousins, stemming from shared ancestors like Tsar Paul I of Russia.
