This was definitely a feel-good episode. The final set against Fukurodani (not the feel-good part), the BBQ, and the anticipation of the upcoming Nationals qualifiers!

I didn't pay as close attention to this the first time around, but I loved the sneak peeks of the country's top aces, and the little snapshots of all the teams that Karasuno will face. I obviously had no clue what was to come the first time I watched, but it's cool being on this side of things (don't worry... Adam doesn't see these posts 😊).

sarah's genuine curiosity as to why people like bokuto killsss me 😭 for me personally, he's just amusing to watch. as a former athlete, I wouldn't even care to bother with a player like bokuto. HOWEVER, watching from the sidelines is too funny to me lol. he's literally like a little kid, and he does have other people's best interests at heart. like when he taught hinata about how to tip, and when he kept dragging tsukki to practice with him and kuroo (even though tsukki did NOT want to). i think for me, it's just fun watching someone have such genuine love and excitement for volleyball, even if he's really immature. seeing him act how he does on the court makes me wonder, "is he for real?" and leaves me exasperated to the point where i'm laughing lmao. he's cringe, but I think that's what makes it fun watching him. plus his highs are pretty high, so that's cool too.

I am definitely incredibly biased seeing as Bokuto is probably in my top three favorite characters in the series. He is easily one of the biggest factors that lead to Tsukki and Hinata's growth in the training camp and the later seasons and his relationship with Hinata is just so fun to watch. Also his pure love for the sport is both entertaining and pretty inspiring.

sad that Adam won't be joining any of the patreon discussions, but it allows me to say this,, am i misremembering or did Sarah accidentally leak a season 2 spoiler (Yamaguchi doing a standing float serve) that totally went over both her and Adam's head?? hahaha

For me, I think there is just a sense that Bokuto is going to grow up to be a really good guy. He's immature now, but in a way that is surprisingly pure. For now, I think it's enough that he brings fire and enthusiasm to his team. Mental fortitude and maturity will come. He's just a child, after all.

I've seen him replying to people on here before, but maybe only in the Youtube version posts?

Erin Shin

Yea I’ve seen him comment on here before but Sarah’s caption says he doesn’t see these posts,, maybe he’s not in the ‘Love House’ hahahaha

I like “hey hey hey” it is lovely to see him so excited and happy. It shows how straightforward he is. I’m sure he knows some people find that embarrassing, but he does it anyway. Plus my Japanese teacher says that when Japanese people are excited sometimes they like to repeat things. Hence “hey hey hey” and ”oya oya oya” from kuroo. I’m sure it’s his catch phrase and the equivalent of someone always yelling “hell yeah” or “let’s go!” When they do something. Like let’s go where? Idk if the reason you don’t like it is cuz it doesn’t make sense or some other reason but I just find it endearing and pure.

for reference all the haikyuu 1st years are 16 or turning 16

I think you might be misreading Bokuto and his interactions with his team a little bit. I think everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but that's also why there's a whole team. You cover eachother's weaknesses. I'm of course speaking as someone with little to no team sports experience so I'm aware that my view is solely academic. But I imagine if someone's serve recieve isn't great, their team mates would make sure someone is there to pick it up. If someone can't serve, you have a serving specialist in reserve, etc. I think in this case, Bokuto's mental fortitude is his weakness that his teammates cover for. If he had a bad attitude towards his teammates, I might agree with the two of you, but from everything we have seen he treats his teammates well. When he starts to fall apart he doesn't take it out on his teammates, he admits he's playing poorly and asks them not to set to him. You can tell by the way the other guys talk about him how much they rely on him. I could totally see how the tone of them repeating his catchphrase could come off as insincere, but I think it reads more like "Okay, we've been here before; we know what to do." To them, it's just another part of the game like cleaning the floors or taking down the net. And when he isn't moping, his passion amd energy actually boosts his team moral. I can totally see where you're coming from and there's every possibility that I'm misreading things. But all of that aside, Bokuto is a genuinely good dude. He's constantly taking actions to lift up the people around him. Whether that's practicing with people his age or teaching the first years, he's always striving to push others to be the best versions of themselves. Even if that is a rival team.

Not even an athlete, can you imagine having Bokuto as a colleague at work? 😂😂😂😂

I don't hate Bokuto. He's just kind of a dork. Like as a *person* I think he's fine. I would absolutely hate being on a team with him though. When I'm on a team the minimum I expect is everyone is giving the best they mentally and physically can at that moment. Like, sure things can happen that affect what that "best" is at any given time and it's kind of a gradient, but what Bokuto is doing is selfish, petty, and just really shitty. Absolutely would hate playing with him. If I was his coach I'd be like "absolutely no way". You have to pick six players to be out there and one of them is volatile and can just start throwing? No, I'm putting in a player who's more stable and I can actually rely on, even if the peak skill is lower. I'd rather have a good team than one guy and his lackeys.

Adam: for the tournament it's a prefecture qualifier to choose the region's number one team who will represent them in the national competition. Due to prior performance they're getting seeded into a slightly later bracket but the IRL Miyagi prefecture has 111 schools so there's still a *lot* of schools competing for this. There's only a few really good schools so yeah for the most part earlier games will statistically speaking be easier until a few rounds in when all that's left is the really good ones, but you never know luck can absolutely cause them to run into a strong team early on if they get in the same block.

Omg, Adam’s enthusiasm for this particular episode contrasted with Sarah’s more-than-usual orneriness so hilariously 😂. Just seeing her immediately shoot down Adam’s little jabs and his “tell him!” towards Tsukishima was brutal 🤣🤣🤣 I hope you two are having a better (if not good) time at home 😅

Alex Park

Agreed. Fun to watch, maybe funny on the right day to deal with, a headache usually. But since we’re watching, fun.

Tp be clear, Fukorodani was the best team in this training camp, and honestly the best team we have seen play so far. They've been to nationals, and their Ace is one of the best in the coutry. Going point for point against them, even in just practice, is impressive as hell.

I love that your asking us to yap about bokuto. He is the ace of a powerhouse school, a top 5 hitter in Japan and frequents nationals. If we are purely talking about prestige, he is one of the best players on paper that we have seen in Haikyuu. Not liking him because of his mental blocks is valid but he is more than just his problems. He is a driven athlete, willing to help his opponents improve and is a wholesome human being. With every appearance I feel that Bokuto gives the viewers life lessons and is taking steps to improving his mental issues. This episode shows that being the best doesn't mean always being on top of your game or having all the attention, picking yourself up regardless of how your playing or what's happening around you is important. My final point is that he isn't unreliable every game. If he was Karasuno wouldn't have taken 61 games to notice his issue. That's all I have to say Hey Hey Hey

"He's constantly taking actions to lift up the people around him... he's always striving to push others to be the best versions of themselves. Even if that is a rival team." This, this is why I adore Bokuto.
