I feel that when it comes to Death Note viewers, it's usually half and half for who people root for (Light vs. L), though normally leaning more toward Team L. This is just from polls I've seen, no actual research done on the subject, obv. I'm 100% Team L. Though when I first watched it as an edgy teenager, I was somehow Team Light for like 60% of the story before I changed my mind and found him completely irredeemable 🥴 Why? I don't know. I don't know why I even liked him when I watched it. I guess I was just an edgy little teenager LOL. Despite not liking Light, I do like Misa. Though I think it has more to do with me feeling extremely bad for her than anything else. She's a murderer, so I wouldn't wanna befriend her if she was a real person (unless maybe I met her pre-death note since she does seem like a sweet girl apart from all of that). But I feel bad for her character and I feel bad that she just wants love, validation, and a sense of purpose. I think the trauma of losing her parents right in front of her and Kira being the one to bring her "justice" warped her perception of love to the point where it became really unhealthy and she's willing to give up everything for someone who doesn't even care about her in the slightest.

This is so interesting... it's seriously 50/50 for Team Light vs Team L?!? That really surprises me. I know I don't like Light but I thought there would be so many more people on Team L.

I guess it depends on what platform you're watching on and if youre watching reaction channels who the audience is. I'm not sure about the overall popularity done in a large survey. I think L as a character is much more popular than Light though.
