the way i understand why Rem went ahead to kill L this episode is this. if you remember, way back when Misa met Light for the first time, Light tried to manipulate Rem into killing L by putting on an act of loving Misa like "If I am happy, will you be happy? Then can you ask Rem to kill L?". And Rem agreed way back then, but at that time L doesn't know about Misa so killing L is of no consequence to Rem. Rem did exactly what Light asked, except now by making L say ".. we just have to catch this new Kira" and Matsuda was like ".. Kira will be executed", L is effectively trying to kill Misa, and Rem killing L would mean Misa's lifespan is lengthened. And so Rem died. Sorry for the wall of text xD

Sarah

Definitely missed the religious reference 🙈 but I appreciate the help. This episode left me stunned... like where do you go from here?!

Sarah

This wall of text was worth it. Thank you!!

From here on out the manga is definitely better and more fleshed out than the show. I still like the adaptation as a whole overall but the pacing of the anime definitely feels a bit rushed after this episode so just bear that in mind and maybe read the manga on your own after you guys finish the show. I would LOVE for you guys to react to Bakuman after this, it's a romance anime by the same authors as death note and has a lot of funny references. To me it's actually their best work even though death note was more commercially successful.

i love bakuman tooooo

I think you misunderstood the part of getting shinigami eyes and halving life a little. They only take half of remaining life, so if Misa was supposed to live till 80, and now she is 20, then shinigami will take 30 years of life and not 40. (80-20)/2= 30, so she will live till she is 50. And let's suppose she lives 5 more years and take another deal, it will be (50-25)/2=12.5, so she has 12.5 more years to live and not 2 more. But we also need to consider, that her lifespan was smth like 18, and was supposed to die, but the other God of Death saved her and his lifespan was added to Misa's. She might have even received 500 years more, there is no limit.

I remember when the chapter where L died came out my friends and I were lost we even threw around the idea that this L was a fake just parroting from an ear piece

Sarah

Good explanation... I was just taking the total lifespan and going from there, not taking into account her remaining lifespan.

Sarah

That definitely crossed my mind.... I refused to believe it actually happened

Im not sure how you come to Misa having 3 years left in the beginning. If we assume she is 20 years old just for the sake of her being older than Light and for the sake of maths and she was supposed to live until she is 100 years old because Gelus years that he had left were transfered to her. That is a lifespan of 80 years. So when she halved it the first time she had 40 years left and when she halved it again she had 20 years left. Since not much time had passed in the meantime, I think it wasnt even 6 month. So she would live until she is about 40. Im not saying that that is a lot or long, but it is a hell of a lot longer than 3.
