My heart is melting that the Master knew Tanjiro would be the perfect person to talk to Giyu. He is empathetic and persistent, and I'm honestly kinda surprised that the Master knew that about him with such limited personal interaction.

The noodle eating contest was the perfect light-hearted addition to the episode too!

Shinobu's (Lady Kocho) sister was a demon slayer (and probably a hashira when Shinobu was an apprentice). They both were in my opinion... from what I can remember of Kanao's backstory (when the sisters buy her from the slave master?). Shinobu's butterfly haori belonged to her sister. Kanae Kocho was an optimistic who believed that demons and humans could coexist. Giyu's age at this point of the story is 21. He was 19 when he first met Tanjiro and Nezuko.

I’ve always liked Giyu. If you’re an Hashira, you’re one of the best of the best. But he has a humbleness and vulnerability that maybe the others don’t have (that we know of!). I’m a bit bias but he is the one who ‘found’ Tanjiro and saw his potential to be a Demon Slayer so he will always have a soft spot!

It’s not a spoiler it was on an earlier episode. You just had to pay attention to Kanao’s backstory in season 2

When I reflect on Giyu and Sanemi’s back story. It’s destined that Tanjiro ran into Giyu in the first episode. Since Giyu lost his sister to a demon, he must have emphasized with Tanjiro and spared Nezuko. Imagine If it was Sanemi that found them in the mountain 😦The story ends in one episode

Giyu is probably my favorite hashira.. i love him.. To dive into Adam's thought process that he thought Giyu is one of the stronger ones. tbh we dont really know. hes defeated Rui quite easily, n beyond that he hasnt really fought anyone else. I would assume all the hashira wouldve done the same. I will say Giyu is overly pessimistic, him creating the 11th form for water breathing says alot abt him tho imo. On top of the fact that sanemi(wind) and obanai(snake) are always angry at him for thinking hes superior. To me, i feel like this reaction must mean that he is relative to them in terms of strength hence why them thinking hes cocky angers them so much. But then again, that was pure speculation when i was watching the series around this time. His finesse and how smooth water style is makes him seem nonchalant and powerful to me

Kochou Kanae, the elder sister of Kochou Shinobu, was also a member of the Demon Slayer Corps (as seen in the Shinobu and Kanao backstory where she wears the uniform and carries a nichirin sword).

Personally, I don’t consider this a spoiler since all these details can be noticed in the backstory scenes of Shinobu and Kanao from the earlier episodes in Season 1. (except for the hashira assumption)

I always saw Giyu and Tanjiro’s relationship as a big brother/little brother relationship rather than friends. In this episode Tanjiro was like an annoying little brother trying to get his big brothers attention 🤣 Giyu spared Nezuko the 1st episode when like 90% of the other Hashira would’ve killed her. He also protected Tanjiro and Nezuko from Rui and Shinobu in season 1. Also he put his life on the line for Nezuko, if she kills another human Giyu will have to commit seppuku. He’s always watching out for Tanjiro as a big brother would, which always gives me a soft spot for Giyu.
