I think the majority of people that claim that "Like Light Yagami" do so as a character (even the ones that root for him because they know it's fiction) and not as a person... the majority at least. (I hope so)

JujuChonk

Exactly haha. If a character is making you feel real feelings toward them, especially hate - then they're a really well written character.

You would be very surprised at how poor some people's media literacy can be. If there are genuine Griffith apologists out here, there are genuine Light supporters too

Lixien

Yeah but I think there's still different types of people that like Light as a character. The ones that feel disgust and hate when watching it and are hoping that he gets caught but still recognize that they are a good character, and the ones that watch the show purely for the fun and really don't care about the evil things Light does, that's usually the people that are on Team Light.. The second type of people is probably what Sarah is talking about. (Because if you would actualy like Light if he were real, you're insane)

I feel that N has enough reason to believe that Kira is the one posing as the current L, but he has not explicitly said it so I don't want to claim it myself. The thing is things are a lot more complicated now with not just 3 but actually 4 players in the picture. Mellow, Near, Light and Kira are all fighting the same battle and only one person could win (obviously there's no point in Light winning as L) so it's entirely possible that N has suspicion about the Japanese L and Kira but choose to work with them anyway to deal with the current Mello situation, especially after all his staff got put down. In his mind, Kira is kind of a nom-factor because he cannot act on the information that only L has (at least not easily), so effectively whether Light wants to or not he has to play the role of L properly while Kira is busy killing Japanese criminals because that's all he can really do.

3 books: -original book Light found, dropped by Ryuk (Ryuk still has his) -Misa's book, originally Jelus' -Rem's book, after they died And I *believe* the book that Mellow has is the original/Ryuk notebook, because that's the only one most of the japanese task force even know are in play Anyway, it's so fun watching these. One thing I think about, is that when L was investigating, he followed the law. SKETCHY methods, but arguably legal. Mellow on the other hand has gone full criminal, because he wants that bad to solve the case. Light can deal with people following the rules because HE'S the one breaking them. He's a bully and that's what bullies do. Once he's against someone else who doesn't follow the rules, well now he has a real problem haha

in my experience people defending light are cringe edgelords

The first book with the rules in it that Light found was originally this new shinigami's. In this episode it explained that Ryuk told the shinigami king that it was his, when in fact it was Sidoh's. Ryuk dropped that notebook for Light who found it in episode 1. This notebook was eventually swapped around so Rem was its owner and it was given to Higuchi and found by the task force after the Yotsuba arc. Now this same notebook, with the fake rules in it, has been exchanged to Mello just as Sidoh is looking to reclaim it. The second book was Gelus' and was given to Misa by Rem as part of Light's plan. The ownership of it was exchanged to Ryuk as part of Light's plan during the Yotsuba arc. It was left buried in the ground for Misa to find later and was the sole notebook in Kira's possession after the Yotsuba arc. The third notebook was taken off Rem's corpse after she saved Misa and died. Light stashed it in his pants and smuggled it out of the building. It has no shinigami attached to it. Light is the owner of this notebook.

This is getting so messy!!!

Sarah

Light has just created all of these double standards that benefit himself, and that is driving me crazy!!! Thanks for explaining about the books though. I was having trouble keeping track! So technically there are 4 books, including Ryuk's original?

Sarah

Great explanation. Thanks for the help!!

Esquirebob

Yes indeedy! Ryuk still has his original book. He's just holdin' onto it, enjoying the show :)

"This world is rotten." Light said in episode 1 is still relatable especially if you're living in 3rd world country where crime rate is high, getting justice is low, rich can get away, corrupt officials, etc... and also me being Agnostic that doesn't believe in "Personal God" as Einstein simplify. Kira's deterrent to crimes even it's extreme is still acceptable IMO. These scenarios where Light (might) resort to kill an innocent will not happen if he wasn't being pursued anyways. In his POV, it's still for the greater good if he has to sacrifice even someone close to him
