riddle

The whole thing with Kiyomi made me hate Light even more than I already did, what a scumbag 🤮 Misa isn't by any means innocent, but seeing Light manipulate both Misa and Kiyomi makes me frustrated and mad for the both of them. Misa has done so much for Light, yet he treats her so poorly since he only sees her as a tool and not a human being. What a huge difference from when we got to know how Light would be without being tainted by the death note to who he actually is right now. We do know that Aizawa suspects Light, so he's probably just rolling with it to see if Light slips up and incriminates himself. But I'm surprised that nobody else on the team called Light out for his plan to use Kiyomi. When Light lost his memories of the death note and we got to meet his untainted self, he refused to manipulate Misa to move the investigation along. L was annoyed by this and said it would help them out, but Light refused to budge because he said that manipulating a woman went against his principles. But now, he's totally fine with doing exactly that with Kiyomi? Of course, we know that Light has ulterior motives, but to the Task Force, he's just doing it because it's going to "help" the investigation. I don't know how the members of the Task Force didn't question why he was fine manipulating a woman now when he was so against it before. And honestly, this situation seems a lot more morally wrong than when L just wanted Light to be friendly with Misa so that he could gather information. I mean he's practically cheating on Misa even if it's just an act. There have been so many inconsistencies with his actions when his memories were gone and when he got them back, that it makes me question how competent the Task Force really is since they haven't brought any of them up lol. It would have raised so many red flags for me. Also Matsuda shame on you for seeing this as a soap opera!!!! 😠

riddle

I wish I could remember my initial reactions to Death Note. I actually watched it about a decade before I started liking anime. It was popular enough that even non-anime fans watched it, or at least knew about it. All I really remember was that I was an edgy little teen back then so I was team Light for half the series. When Mr. Yagami died, I finally snapped out of it and was disgusted with Light for caring so little about his family. I also remember not really liking the show after L died because it felt a little too fast paced/rushed. I remember my second rewatch a lot better since it was only a few years ago. I enjoyed it so much more and was able to appreciate the second half with Near and Mello.

I want to push back a bit on the moral/philosophical side of things l, just enough to elevate the conversation from the usual "we're all too polite to say anything abrasive" place. When Adam and Sarah made the combined statement that Mikami's desire is "also coming from a place of making the world a better place" ... "according to his definition," this is where I'd like to raise the objection: whose definition of justice is a better guide than one's own? By criticizing Mikami and Kira, are we each not ourselves doing so because their senses of justice deviate from our own? Are we not doing the exact same thing they are, i.e. applying our own standards on things external to us, albeit at different scales and with different consequences? Even more than that: is it even possible to understand the world in ways that aren't reflective of who we are? Isn't who we are a culmination of the way we see and interact with the world in the first place? When I say "I know John", isn't what I mean just that "I have come to witnessed some facts about the way that John conducts himself in the world and given a comparably similar situation to the ones I have seen him in, I feel strongly that I can predict his behaviors"? Is John in this case not reduced to a mere collection of his interactions with the world? Because if there is a "soul" out there that is truly John in its entire essence, I have no way of seeing it or knowing anything about it, and wouldn't be able to claim that I know John at all.

Preach. The inconsistencies are huge, and they may be attributing them to how people change when they are given absolute power, but it's still incredibly disturbing. I am loving Aizawa right now and I want him to take action so badly!

We all have our sense of justice, whether it be considered correct or incorrect, but what separates most people from Light and Teru is the fact that most people don't go around killing people in the name of their brand of justice. That being said, I think it is much easier to judge those two than others because the are so radical in their approach. I agree with your last paragraph in that how much do any of us REALLY know anyone else. You can't read people's thoughts but their words and actions are the clues we are given to understand their values and beliefs, and that is what we have to go by. That is why I feel so strongly about Light- his actions are telling me who he is.

I'm not above criticizing Light for his actions either, but what I want to point out is that there's a difference between committing murder and committing murder for what you believe to be a good cause. In practical terms, they all have way too much blood on their hands that no considerations could possibly change any outcomes, and everyone is more than justified to condemn them and their actions. However, you can't condemn them for their beliefs. Their beliefs aren't any more wrong than any of ours. Acting on those beliefs is the problem, so the issue is not that they're wrong, it is that they are TOO interventional. For example: Teru acted upon his belief even well before the note. He became a prosecutor because that was the closest thing he had access to, but we don't condemn that because there is ostensibly nothing wrong with being a prosecutor, even though he's doing it for the exact same motivation. So long story short, murder is wrong but murdering for a better world isn't as clearly so. At the very least, it'd take a lot more discussion to get to the point where we CAN condemn that kind of thinking.

About lights dad: since he died so fast after getting shinigami eyes, it means he would habe died soon anyway, because the eyes half the life span. So basicslly he wouldve lived only few days or weeks more
