I know this isn't everyone's favorite Haikyu!! diversion, but I feel like it is pretty underrated. The backstory, the interesting strategy, the struggle, and the payoff at the end is totally worth it to me.

And Kenma calling his teammates his friends for the first time.... come on! How could you not love it?

i guess it seems more jarring in the anime but i imagine this little nekoma check-in served as a nice breather while the manga was still running. the karasuno vs. inarizaki match is the longest match in all of haikyuu (a little over 40 chapters) and since the manga chapters released weekly i think furudate was concerned people would get bored of nearly a full year of the same match. i love the manga but i'm glad i have the luxury of just binge reading arcs instead of having to wait for them haha

Not everything needs to focus on the main characters. It's with all forms of media lately, we've gotten so impatient we can't appreciate side stories and arcs. It's called world building people... 😡

having followed the manga during weekly release, honestly... true HAHAH I didn't get bored exactly bc i love inarizaki to bits (my fav team) but it FELT like it was starting to drag on

I think the problem is just that it detours mid-match and feels a bit jarring. I'm pretty sure all of us here appreciate a good Nekoma arc.

Yay glad Adam enjoyed it and we got another notch on the misty eyed charts. Love Kenma starting to open up more and acknowledge everyone as his friends. I agree Nekoma is definition of true team cohesiveness.

I want to share an embarrassing moment that's relevant: when I was much younger there was one moment during a grocery trip when I was carrying way too much weight from the car into the house (as you do because Mama didn't raise no bitch) and I remember wishing that I could magically elevate the bags with the power of my mind. Then I blamed gravity for my misery and wondered what life would be like without it at that moment. Then it hit me like a truck: gravity doesn't exist to make my life miserable. It just is a fact about the world and i just happen to live in that world. Somewhere out there two rocks are heading towards each other and they're about to collide. That is just as much of a fact about this world, and I happen to not care at all about it. So the source of my suffering is, logically, from within myself. It is my desire for things and the lack of those things that create a "gap" and I'm reacting emotionally to this gap. If I didn't have groceries or if the groceries were much lighter, then my mental state would've been different. Or alternatively, if I could remove my emotions from the matters of fact in the world, then I would no longer be unhappy. That perspective became more than just a coping mechanism; I can now recognize and separate my emotional self from my rational self so that I can give it the care it needs but also wrestle back control of myself instead of surrendering control of my actions and decisions.

I love this Nekoma match!! It's only frustrating because we got interrupted from Karasuno's match. It's also such a Kenma thing to say he leveled up as in video games (prepared to play against Karasuno now).
