I'm sorry... Himmel may be the hero, but Frieren is an absolute legend in her own right. Love her!

To clarify the titles in response to Adam’s question: Qual — the demon from episode 3 and inventor of the killing spell — held the unique title of Elder Sage of Corruption. Aura, Frieren’s current opponent, is one of the Seven Sages of Destruction Unfortunately, two amusing little details get lost in translation: 1. In Japanese, there are different ways to count things. For humans (sentient beings) there’s a special counter (hitori - 1 person), but Frieren deliberately uses the counter for small animals (ippiki - 1 small animal) when she kills Draht. Bonus insult: she doesn’t even use the counter for large animals, but the one for small critters :D 2. At the end of the episode there’s a really cool title drop: "Sousou no Frieren". In English, the anime title was translated as "Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End", while Frieren’s character title was translated as "Frieren the Slayer". But in Japanese they’re the same title, written to carry multiple meanings depending on the context. The closest literal translation is something like "Funeral Frieren". At first, viewers might think, “Ah, it’s Funeral Frieren because she’s mourning her friends at funerals.” But after this episode it also becomes, “Oh, it’s Funeral Frieren because she literally sends demons to their funerals” Thank you for sharing reaction!

Take it easy on my boy, Stark 😂 The rope was magical, so he couldn't cut it

Nathaniel Wanner

Yesss, it only gets better from here! Some notes and fun tidbits: The rope was magical, cut Stark some slack! Lugner says Frieren contributed significantly to Zoltraak's analysis, but in ep 3 when we learn about Zoltraak for the first time, Frieren describes it as 'Humans analyzed Zoltraak, and does not mention herself at all' She also modified it specifically to kill demons, which we don't know about until now. It's possible Frieren never told Fern about it since Fern seems confused at Lugner mentioning it. Like Adam said, Fern and Stark have little experience, so they're unsure of their own power level. Fern is constantly comparing herself to Frieren, the mage from the party that defeated the Demon King, and Stark is doing the same with Eisen, the warrior from that same party. When you only compare yourself to the best, you look shoddy by comparison. So, some confusion on Zoltraak and its origins. Qual was the demon who made the spell Zoltraak, in ep 3. He is known as the Elder Sage of Corruption. He is NOT one of the 7 Sages of Destruction and he is NOT the Demon King. We have only heard the demon king, we haven't seen him. Frieren makes quick work of Qual because of human time passing. Remember, the party of heroes could not beat him the first time they fought, so they sealed him for 80 years, allowing humanity to catch up, and then Frieren killed him.

This sums up everything I was about to comment. I did not know about the title tho. Thats a super cool tidbit.

Sarah: "dude what is this like magic rope?" 😅😂

I think yall might have missed the point a little bit with Stark's character introduction. The message to me was that fear is not a bad thing. If someone climbs a ladder to save a kitten stuck in a tree, it's still awesome but not crazy impressive; but if a person who is afraid of heights does the same, it is much more commendable because their desire to help those in need was greater than their fear - but they're not suddenly cured of their fear of heights (fears are irrational like that sometimes). Stark may one day become more confident as he gets more battle experience, or he may be a coward forever, but that's okay. Stark has shown both when he faced the dragon and now that he is willing to take action despite being afraid, something that both Fern and Frieren have acknowledged. If you want to compare to a character like Zenitsu, who is also a coward but never consciously fights demons, Stark is much more reliable a companion. Though some of it is definitely played up for comedic effect.

i cannot wait for your reactions to the remainder of the arc

"From 1 to Mob" 🤣

Alex Chen

My question is that on this scale from one to mob, is it a 100 point scale?

Talosig23

I just realized now that Stark is a needed vanguard in their team. Unlike the Dragon fight where Frieren just let him fight alone.

Shattermirror

I personally absolutely love Frieren and Fern to bits, but Stark is my favourite character because he actually reminds me a bit of both Eisen and Himmel in a way. He’s a coward like Eisen who fights despite his fear which means every time he goes into battle he’s actually fighting on two fronts- his opponent and himself. At the same time, every time they stop in a town or village for a while, you can see him going around helping people with little tasks, like indulging little kids’ games or moving cargo or fixing something or heck, pulling kittens out of trees. He goes out of his way to be helpful just like Himmel. I really admire the other two, I just find him more relatable because he’s someone who doesn’t believe he is capable but still doesn’t back down from a fight when the cards are down.

It's a scale from 1 to ???

I have rewatched these episodes so many times and this is the first time I’ve ever noticed fern absolutely putting away that hamburger because of yall mentioning it. That is actually hilarious lmao

i love the counting word trivia

That jaw drop when Frieren killed Draght! LMFAO!

David Flanery

One thing I like about most fights in this is that they are pretty quick and decisive. It adds to the believability for me.

I did a personality test like 1-2 years ago, and I got Frieren. Sigh, I wanted Flamel, and my little brother got her as a personality. He found it funny getting the cooler character that thaught Frieren.

Adam Schulz

Where did you find the characters personalities?

Adam Schulz

Haha that’s a good question. I’ll have to figure out what’s in between.

Adam Schulz

That’s really interesting, thanks for sharing that with us! We miss so much from the original language.
