We've got a special! And I do mean special, because this is the longest video I've ever put out, eclipsing the Blood 2 Rawmaster by about seven minutes. A lot needed to be discussed because Epic sucks, Unreal is great, Return to Na Pali is hilarious, and it's about time I concluded the stupid lore bits I've been sprinkling throughout the videos over the last year or so. 2023 clean slate.I'll never understand the lack of love for Unreal when compared to the other titans of the time like Doom, Quake, Half-Life, etc. Maybe Epic's live-burial of the single player games had something to do with it. Maybe, maybe not. There are touches of Unreal everywhere - in Dusk, maybe in Amid Evil a bit - but no one seems interested in really recapturing that magic, packaging it on Steam for $20 bucks and sending me a key. I'm told of Wolf3D-likes 100% more than I'm told of Unreal-likes. What a shame. 

Hopefully the audio issues (Unreal is loud) and video issues (Unreal is dark) have been worked out to provide maximum viewing pleasure.

Fuck yeah! This is the game that got me into modding, which in turn got me into programming and pretty much dictated the course of my life afterward. I still remember being in awe at the castle intro the first time I saw it. I played Unreal 1 almost exclusively for years, until I finally got my hands on UT and its sequels.

I remember briefly playing Unreal as a kid going through my dad's collection of pc games and demo discs. Can't say I played enough to be nostalgic for it, but I'm happy to learn more about it. Thanks for the video Civvie.

Unreal was a powerhouse to me, as a child. I played Unreal's co-op every night after school for a solid year, on Gamespy Arcade. After a couple months, there was a really neat mod that added different "classes" - like an alien with a quad-laser cannon, grim reaper, etc. - and we'd all pick a class and play through on increasingly harder difficulties. It also disabled picking up certain weapons/items, so one of us playing a class with a fire/plasma projectile would have to take lead in darker levels to light the way. Was a really unique experience, in an extremely unique for it's time game world.

I have to wonder if there's any chance for any UT content, even if it's fairly minimal. There's a lot of interesting 1999 shooter aesthetics and ideas going on with a lot of those maps, even beyond the obvious stuff like Facing Worlds.

Hmm...Civvie if ya want a real 90's throwback on your channel I haven't seen many people cover...check out the Space Bar from Segasoft...Its an adventure game, pretty interesting relic, though not sure if you could get it to run (it enjoyed hard crashing to desktop even in the 90s) Thanks for the Unreal Vid!

One of my first pc games ever was Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament. Truth be told I never beat gold. It scared me too much as a kid. BUT.... I played the ever loving shit out of Unreal Tournament and watching this video finally explained to me why playing against the A.I. DIDN'T feel like playing against A.I. No wonder they were so fast. As a kid who didn't have internet at the time; I got to enjoy as close to a real multiplayer experience I could get at the time because of that man's fine invention. Wonderful. Truly awesome. Thanks for digging up these old memories! Now to go find me some copies of the games somewhere.

Goodness. Unreal. That opening to the Falls after escaping the ship. It's up there with playing Unreal Tournament and playing the map Morpheus/FacingWorld/Phobos. I got pissed way back when Epic were advertising Unreal Tournament 3 and in the advertisement it said, "From the makers of 'Gears of War'"... I was like WHAT?! Ya'll did your foundational games dirty. Not respecting the past like... I don't know when the next "Unreal" game will happen. I hope to create a series based on the Universe of Unreal but... time will tell. Thank you for putting the time and effort into this video. Good times and hopefully, this educates future game makers about what goes into a game world.

It's been decades since I last played Unreal, I don't own a copy anymore and now that it's delisted I can't (Fuck you Tim) but I'm almost certain that if you start charging the rocket launcher with M1 and then hold M2, when it fires the rockets are in a tight circular pattern rather than spread out horizontally. This video has been out for quite awhile and I haven't delved to deep into the comments, so it might have been brought up already.
