Hi all!

Hope everyone's doing well. I'm back from my much-needed summer break, recharged and ready to go for the 'autumn term'. I thought I'd kick things off in style with my first ever Sonic Youth video. Despite SY being up there amongst my favourite bands, I've always been slightly nervous about tackling one of their songs in a tutorial, given their penchant for weird tunings and a frequently impossible to reproduce avant-garde guitar stylings. But I'm glad I gave it a try in this video. This is an awesome song that's actually not too hard to play once you figure out the unusual tuning. Hope you enjoy it. Tab is attached below. I've not transcribed every last nuance of the original, but I hope all the important parts are in there.

See you next week,

Adrian

I'm so excited. Thanks Adrian!!!! One of my favorite bands, and their songs have definitely been missed from your content. Though, I certainly understand why, for the reasons you've mentioned. Thanks again and sending well wishes to you and family.

I was hoping for The Diamond Sea!

I've been reading Sonic Life (very good so far) and reacquainting myself with Sonic Youth - so this is very timely

Awesome lesson thanks Adrian! Another band you've yet to look at is Jesus and Mary Chain, would love a lesson on Cherry Came To, or April Skies : )

Much appreciation 🤠

The adult alternative internet radio station that we play at work has this in regular rotation. I hear it at least once a week and it never gets tiring. Cheers!

Welcome back Adrian. Never really clicked with Sonic Youth but I’ve hardly given them a fair listen, this is a really interesting lesson so I will dig in deeper. Thank you!

RedNed

Thanks for this. Really enjoyed. Would love for you to do Daydream Nation absolute classic.

Amazing job Adrian , I seen a video of yours a few years back from Reverend Horton Heat. Any chance in the near future you could do wiggle stick? That’s a hell of a song, and definitely a lot of fun to play. I’m dying to learn it.!😊✋🏻🎸… great job as always .. thank you ; Johnny

Vinicius Francisco Alves

Thats great, love this song. What about some obscure early 90's like Thee Hypnotics and Telescopes?

Adrianrocks

Next time maybe Teenage Riot? It’s a really crazy tuning but an all time favorite.

Adrianrocks

I have spent months working on D For Dangerous from the video lesson. I even bought a Gretsch. I’m all in for more Rev!

Thanks Adrian .. I got a question for you. I seen your video for spellbound. Did you ever do a tab for that?.. that song is so awesome and so incredibly hard but I want to give it a go. I was curious if there was a tab for it. It floating around I’m a big banshees fan too….Johnny .. thanks again for getting back to me about the Reverend Horton Heat … 😊✋🏻🎸

Frank Smudde

Nice one, thanks! Would not want to put you through the agony of doing a full in-depth on The Diamond Sea, but was wondering if Cotton Crown could make an interesting video
