Hello all,

It's Summer Special time once again. And I've opted to go for a real classic this year. Nothing particularly hard about the guitar part, since this one's really all about the songwriting. Having said that, if you are more of a beginner, there's actually some quite challenging stuff here, plus it's a great song for working on your open position 7th chords. Here's a link -

https://youtu.be/Bmc5vUVs1oQ

In the video I also spend a bit of time discussing the harmony and writing which I hope will be of interest to those of you who write your own songs. Attached below you can find a chord/lyric chart, and there's also a tab where I've written out some suggested rhythms and strumming patterns, but you don't need to stick too closely to those if you don't want to.

And do check out my previous summer videos - I'll put together a playlist on YouTube.

As I say at the end of the video, I will be off on my hols for a bit while I recharge my content creation batteries. I'm planning to do a bit of light guitar practice and writing. And also plenty of listening, which will hopefully lead to some fresh video ideas. New song suggestions particularly welcome right now as I'm going to be planning videos for the 'autumn term' very soon!

I'll be back in one, possibly two week's time. Thanks as ever to everyone here for the incredible support. Speak soon,

Adrian

Would love to see some Pale Saints. I think they'd fit right in. Have a good holiday.

Where’s the video ?

While we are mentioning the Kinks...their song David Watts, as performed by the Jam is still without a tutorial on Youtube......just saying.

Tom

Some more „Our Band Could Be Your Life“ related stuff would be great.

A great Summer song choice and one of my faves by the Kinks. Please consider doing a video on Victoria if you’re still in a Kinks frame of mind when you return. Enjoy your holiday.

Tom

Also, you’d still be the first to do a Bevis Frond tutorial on YT.

Great choice. Thanks, Adrian.

I have been working on your previously released “Celebrated Summer” this week. Id love to see another Husker Du piece, perhaps something off Flip Your Wig. Another idea is Green Grow the Rushes off REM’s Fables of the Reconstruction. Thanks Adrian and enjoy your holiday.

Great Job as usual. You asked for requests so here goes. I know you love Surf music, and so do I. My favorite surf tune of all time is: "Stingray Stomp," by the Blue Stingrays. It's also a great song to listen to on Holiday. Hope you'll consider it as I'd love to learn some of the different parts employed here https://youtu.be/TQ0HfwVo7FU?si=1heblSwmKqEqNgMh

A great lesson, thanks. Any chance of looking at something by the brilliant Michael Head. Shack or the Pale Fountains - Jean's Not Happening would be great. Cheers.

This is absolutely eerie. Just yesterday this song popped into my head and I was noodling around trying to work it out with without looking up chords or tabs online (because that’s my hopeful approach to actually learning a song) and now you have posted this brilliant lesson.

Winter where I am but loving this one Adrian. Happy Traum died recently and he was a catalyst practitioner for guitar teachers to come. Below is an article about him playing with Bob Dylan. I have posted a link to a version of I Shall Be Released - Studio Outake 1971 here before. Is this the one Happy mentions in the article? It is worth a lesson for lots of reasons. https://www.happytraum.com/post/recording-with-bob-dylan-1971

Thanks for the lesson on this great song by Ray. i’d be interested in any Dave song you could work up, or one of his solos on a Kinks song.

Cool...hoping this will be the first in a suite of lessons on songs that explore the UK's punitive income tax policy in the 1960s (see also 'Taxman').
