This week I want to take a look at Rebel Rouser by Duane Eddy, one of the original guitar heroes, who died earlier this year.

This is one of his best known tracks. It's pretty straightforward to play though you will have to watch out for the series of key changes. Tab and backing track can be found below.

I've added a hi-hat to keep time at the start of the backing. You'll need to come in after a bar and a half (after 6 hits) then the band will enter at the right point.

Enjoy!

One of the first songs I learned 1959.

Damn, just was thinking how nice it would be to have a backing track to this song! Shazzzam!!

John Kowall

Stalking was a great Duane Eddy song

I just played this song for my dad yesterday he’s 84 loves Duane Eddy

Definitely a shopping trip to your nearest Gretsch stockist required! I am a relative novice and just have a G5230T Electromatic Jet with Bigsby. I would love to add a G5420T, which is similar to a 6120T, but more wallet-friendly. The Jet is remarkably versatile, and to me, rather underrated. Whatever you choose, keep bringing us these brilliant lessons, please.

Brilliant stuff Adrian, with a great Backing Track. My older Sister had this single when it came out and it's one of the first songs I remember hearing as a very young child. So maybe that's why I really love Twangy Guitars lol.

Angus Kingston

This is great. Thank you. I’ve also discovered a love of playing the twang thanks to you. Can you tell me why these early rock n rollers used tremolo? It seems like a strange effect to almost invent at the start of the electric guitar era.

Thanks Adrian for showcasing Duane Eddy!!

Timothy Long

I think Adrian needs to invent Surfgaze!

Great lesson Adrian - thanks for the clear explanation

Great Adrian...I saw Duane supporting Bill Haley and the original Comets back in the mid 60's ....what a night that was.

Hi Adrian, love all the content. I saw an old video mentioning a post-punk course. I looked around a bit and couldn’t find it. Did you create that and if so how can I access it?

Lawrence Hobbis

Since there are so many great artists who defined what rock music is, no-one runs any risk of over-using the word "iconic". These are rock gods - speaking metaphorically - so, to follow the metaphor, "iconic" is entirely appropriate. Using the word a lot doesn't make it a cliche. Using it carelessly - calling Pat Boone a rock icon, for example - now that would be a cliche.

I'm and old man with too much stuff to learn that I'll never get to it all. I cancel any music site subscriptions to concentrate on what I have already here to work on, including part II of your solo course on your website, but I keep getting sucked back into your Patreon page. You and I seem to have a lot of the same tastes. I know this song is pretty simple, but like you said, it's great fun to play. I love bands like Link Wray, The Trashmen, The Cramps, and Duane Eddy. Just so much fun to sit and just play to the backing tracks. I do take on some more difficult stuff as I have learned Babylon's Burning and doing ok with it. I'm working on Canon Rock (Jerry C version) but at a 110 bpm pace, not liking the literal shreading in parts of that song at 200 bpm. However, I can't stop myself from putting that aside and jumping into songs like this and Malaguena by the Trashmen, trying to create the twangy sound as much as my equipment allows. Thank you for giving joy to an old guy.

Thanks Adrian. These Surf /Twang numbers are getting me in to single strings rather than power chording/open-chording everything
