For today's exercise a quite challenging legato lick played on the top pair of strings. This is a great hammer-on/pull-off/sliding workout. Pay particular attention to where the slides occur, and also the picking indications shown on the tab. And remember it doesn't need to be played at shredding speed for it still to benefit your technique.

Hope you enjoy the exercise, and see you tomorrow!

Struggling with this one. I cant generate enough sound on the second hammer-on on the E string so that there is any real sound from the slide up to 10th fret and then pull offs after. Do i need to crank up the volume or change some other setting or is it more technique?

NB

Great challenge Adrian - looking forward to get it under control!!

For some reason this puts me in mind of snake charming music, like maybe a cobra is liable to crawl out of a guitar case.

Wonderful exercise, Adrian. This is exactly the kind of legato workout that I’ve been looking for. I appreciate the insights you provide on tempo and slowly building to greater speed after learning how to control your fingers.

Thank you for this tough challenge on a dreary Sunday...

This is easier for me with a shorter scale guitar, extra light strings, series humbuckers selected, higher gain setting on the amp and running through a compressor pedal. So, gear helps some, but iron-hard pinky calluses and preternaturally long fingers like Adrian's are probably more helpful. Not to mention the ten thousand hours of practice ....

Farty observation of the day: played slow with an 1/8th note feel rather than triplets the lick reminds me of Plain Song. Fartier still, I understand that it works most easily as triplets but I like hearing it in 5/4 interspersed and concluding with a few bars in 3/4. Anyway, now that I enjoy singing it, I'll try and play the darned exercise. Thanks for this excellent series Adrian.

This reminds me of Khruangbin (Mark Speers) technique. it is def in the tone paradigm they are in but also the use of legato and not super shreddy style.

Thanks, Adrian! for your work and time and for sharing! Is there any way to send you a question directly? I have issues with a song/s that would like to ask you, without requesting a video, of course?

One day we will get to see Adrian the shreddi night appear from behind the cloak of Patagonia fashion items. Mark my words :-D

Day 11. Another Challenge for sure, at least I can do this one slowly and go from there. Cheers Pete
