Hi everyone! This week, I'm talking about the way I sometimes like to use open strings as a drone note when playing pentatonic ideas. It's a simple concept, but a great way of adding a bit of interest to your pentatonic licks, or any other kind of licks for that matter.

I deliberately didn't describe every note of every lick I play in the video since I wanted to emphasise the importance of the general technique over the specific licks I'm playing. But for those of you who do want to dig into my phrases more deeply I've written out every example and lick from the video below (7 pages of tab!)

Hope you enjoy the video, and good luck with getting some of these ideas into your own playing.

Do this to revitalise your tired pentatonic licks (open string drones)

One of my favourite tricks for spicing up pentatonic phrases. An easy concept to pick with many different applications. 7 pages of meticulously put together tab can be found on my Patreon page. Very cool thanks Adrian. Dan Auerbach uses these a lot in his rootsy takes on Delta style electric. Thanks for sharing these.
