Hi all!

A new video is up - this one's on Night Shift by Siouxsie and the Banshees, from the 1981 album Juju. (I sometimes feel like I'm the guy who's always posting McGeoch tutorials, but it's actually been a good couple of years since the last one.) This is a detailed look at all the guitar parts: we have riffs, arpeggios, interesting chord work and the atmospheric instrumental section, plus there's some gear and tone discussion towards the end.

As usual tab and backing track are available to download below.

Hope you enjoy it.

A post-punk guitar tutorial never disappoints

Good stuff

Debbie

The more McGeogh the better, in my opinion!

As usual, great John McGeoch tuition and I am also a fan and of Adrian. I hope you might give John Valentine Carruthers achievements on later S&B albums. Always in the shadow of McGeoch, Carruthers was especially good and unique on the Tinderbox album. Despite all the anti about it being heavy metal. Which is certainly is not.

Thanks so much for doing this. This is what made me look up McGeochs stuff

Look how ripped your arms look! That’s why you haven’t been posting so much. You’ve been pumping iron! Having said that nonsense - Amazing the way you have replicated the sound!

I was thinking about learning this song just this week. Perfect timing, thank you!

As always Adrian, great video and you are 100% correct, it's all about playing for the song. Too many people are obsessed by flashy, overly complicated playing and forget about the effect it is having on the audience. Great players can make amazing music out of 3 or 4 notes. Well done again!

It’s rare to come across tutorials from that golden age when Cold Wave and Post-Punk brought a fresh perspective to guitar playing. From Siouxsie to Echo and the Bunnymen, or even Robert Smith… these are wonderful sources of inspiration for adding variety to and improving our own playing. Thanks ;)
