Hi all!

A new lesson this week on Mr Moto by The Bel Airs. After the deep dive into Sultans of Swing a couple of weeks ago, this one's a nice change of pace, a fun surf classic that's not too tricky to play. We cover the whole tune: the Spanish-flavoured intro and the hooky verse and bridge melodies. I've replaced the piano solo from the original recording with some ideas of my own - double stop melodies, chord tone soloing, and some triads (of course).

Full tab and a backing track can be found below. The backing follows the arrangement of the original recording.

(Thanks to Iain for the updated tab which has fixed an issue with the DS al coda.)

Hope you enjoy it.

Fantastic as always Adrian! I hope you are not forgetting the absolute classic surf track - Reef Break by The Atlantics - in the remaining songs on your list!!

anyonecanplayguitar

Ah yes, that probably qualifies as another glaring omission! Maybe I'll make that one the next surf tune I tackle. Thanks Iain!

Chris Lambert

Well, as a stroke of good fortune, I had decided to learn this tune the other week. Ive not had time to get into it yet, and hey, presto! out comes the lesson!

I love your surf and rockabilly/country tutorials!! I'm a former bass player, but I decided to start learning guitar in the last couple of years when I could fit it in. Your lessons are quite helpful for someone who doesn't know more than basic open chord shapes. makes it a lot easier to figure out how to play these classics.

Another surf guitar song to add to the repertoire! Cheers Adrian…

These lessons are so much fun. Thanks, Adrian. Maybe tackle some Hoodoo Gurus some time in the future (Spaghetti Western)?

Got my new Jazzmaster yesterday... To learn this track on it and feel that jangly tone is so much fun! Thank you

Really enjoyed this. Thanks especially for the work on the solo, appreciate the work on the bends. terrifically fun piece

Adrian, just to let you know that the gp file has an extra repeat in it. It doesn’t go to the coda first time round unlike your playthrough.

Iain G

Thanks Adrian. Will you let us know?

Iain G

Thanks Adrian. I loved learning that tune. So much fun!

Hi Adrian. So, I tried the new version and unfortunately it's still not correct. Second time round at Bar 28 should go to the Coda at Bar 51, but it doesn't. It just repeats the whole section again before going there. Sorry! (GP play through about 3'10", your play through 2'05".)

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes it always seems to be doing an extra repeat and I can’t seem to fix it. It seems to be a known bug in guitar pro so there’s really not much else I can do. All I can suggest is that you edit together your own version of the tab. And write it out in full omitting the repeat markings.

Iain G

Thanks Adrian. The devs at GP are VERY slow to fix anything. From a personal pov, I don't need the GP file any more as I've memorised it all, but just thought it was useful to point out the issue for anyone just picking it up. Cheers

Iain G

Hi Adrian, I've fixed the GP file with help from GP tech support. How can I get it to you?

Bertrand Dugas

Fantastic Adrian.. Loving every minute!

Craig

Nice job! My good friend, Paul Johnson, wrote this song and I joined your site so I could learn it bcuz I've always been too embarrassed to ask Paul to teach me it to me....lol
