Morning patrons! I have a new video for you this morning. I'm looking at the song Ex Lion Tamer by the mighty British band Wire. It's a fun, easy to play bit of post -punk. The music/tab can be found below. I've actually filmed a few other short Wire videos which I'll be putting out over the next few weeks. I realise Wire isn'y going to be everybody's cup of tea, so I'll be mixing those lessons in with plenty of other things. Today I'm planning on filming a bit of classic rock n roll/rockabilly which will be out next week.Speak soon,

Adrian

Ex Lion Tamer by Wire | Post-Punk Guitar Lesson

Been meaning to look at some Wire for ages. So I'm kicking off a series of short Wire vids with this look at Ex Lion Tamer from their 1977 debut album. I once emailed a guy through Amazon to ask about something he'd said in a John Cale album review. It started a correspondence, and we've been friends for years now although we've never met. He told me that there was a band called Wire that I absolutely had to hear, and that he was going to violate his personal prohibition against copying commercially available music, and send me their first three albums because he was sure I would then buy them. But before they arrived, I got their then-newest album "Send," and it blew me away; I eventually bought everything. He indoctrinated me into every one of their solo/side projects, and there are a lot! My single favorite might be Edvard Graham Lewis's set Under/Over.

Adrian, this was pretty easy to play as you said, but is huge fun. And it was a great break from what has dominated my last two practices, which was your Stack O'Lee lesson, trying to develop that fingerstyle coordination. Nothing like banging out Ex Lion-Tamer to clear your mind!

Yes, as I say in the video I'm familiar with the first 3 records and not much else. But it's nice to think that there's so much out there still to discover - I'll certainly be checking out the more recent Wire releases as well as some of the many solo/side-projects over the coming weeks.

FYI it took me a bit of searching to find this, it's not tagged under Wire like the other videos. Crisis averted, but you may want to add it. Thanks for everything!
