Morning patrons. To balance out the slightly obscure post-punk (more Wire coming soon...) I thought I'd look at a well-known guitar classic this week. I realise there are a lot of lessons and transcriptions of this particular song around already, but I've not seen any that really make sense to me. So I thought I'd have a go myself. Link to the video below. Also the tab in PDF and Guitar Pro form. Enjoy learning it! Speak next week,

Adrian

Many thanks Adrian for posting this one. I know the song but I can hear nuances I can and will add to my own version. As a huge fan of Scotty Moore, anything concerning him is like mother's milk to me...OK, not quite but much appreciated nonetheless.

Hiyas, very good one. I play this song for a long time. Now i can improve my playing and compare it to your version. I was hoping for a backing track.

Congratulations on your mastery of the thumbpick, Adrian. I recall in your (excellent) lesson on "Mystery Train" that you specifically mentioned you and thumbpicks did not get along. What a difference a few years have made. Your effort really paid off. You play this beautifully. Thanks for another fine lesson, and thanks for keeping rockabilly in your enjoyably electic mix of lessons.

Excellent arrangement

Thanks Douglas. Not sure about mastery just yet, but it's certainly getting easier with the thumbpick!

Thanks - hope this lesson gives you a few ideas for your version of the song. I'm afraid I didn't have time to make a backing track for this one. I'd suggest making your own if you can - it's great rhythm guitar practice. Record yourself playing the Elvis strumming part, or use a looper pedal.

Thank you Adrian, i was just hoping. I will give it a try and you prove it then. I will give it away then for others too here in the community.

Most Excellent Adrian, thanks. I've never found a thumb pick that is comfortable or stays in the right place to pick the bass strings so I'm going to try it without thumb pick as you did on mystery train.

Yes, thumbtacks can be tricky. I've got a really skinny thumb so it took a while before I found one that didn't move around too much. To be honest I think you can play this style just as well using a normal pick and fingers approach.

Just noticed you are the unfortunate recipient of 2 guitar playing Melton brothers. Excellent tunes Adrian, thanks a lot. Time for some Kula Shaker ?? Muse perhaps ?
