Afternoon all! It's nice lick time once again. This one's a useful rock 'n' roll or rockabilly kind of phrase. In the video I also get into a bit of 7th chord inversion theory which I hope you'll find interesting. Here's the link:

And I'm attaching the usual PDF and Guitar Pro files of the music/tab below.

Hope you all have a great week. Speak next Friday,

Nice lick! (ahem) I'm a sucker for the slidy ones. I have a song suggestion that might get me black balled by the ACPG community, but my wife would love it and I know Adrian is always on the look out for something out there, so here goes: What about Perfect Skin by Lloyd Cole? Just typing it makes me feel uneasy, but it has got a nice jangly guitar part, and it definitely isn't standard Youtube guitar lesson territory.

Chris Maddox

Well, not a bad suggestion Jeff. 'Perfect Skin' is a good track. As we all know though, no matter how objectively good a track is there will always be someone who thinks otherwise. It is the way of things.

Brian Scott

Can't say enough about the value of including the theory behind your exceedingly 'nice licks'! It keeps me motivated to become the kind of player I want to be instead of just learning songs. Cheers Adrian!

Chris Kueny

I agree about the theory too. Learning the notes in a solo, even if it's one that I know and love, is hard going for me when I don't know what inspired the artist to choose those notes.

Hi Jeff - no need to feel apprehensive about suggesting a bit of Lloyd Cole - I love a bit of jangly, literate pop music! The Rattlesnakes album is a classic. Funnily enough, a good friend of mine - Stephen - used to be drummer in the Commotions, and I've seen them live a few times. I've not tried learning Perfect Skin before though - might have to give it a try!

Jeff Sims

Thanks for the backing on Lloyd Cole, Adrian and Chris M. Maybe the picking pattern for the 'Heartbroken' song would be more suited to an Adrian Lesson?

Jeff Sims

Lloyd Cole has come to Australia a few times to do solo gigs and my wife has taken me along. He does a pretty relaxed one man show, but the emphasis is definitely not on guitar work, I guess one of the Commotions did all the heavy lifting there.

Eric Larsen

I would be delighted if you would walk us through any of the songs on those three Lloyd Cole & the Commotions albums, Adrian!
