Hello all! This week I'm in acoustic mode and will be taking a look at Vestapol. Is it a tuning, a place, a piece of music? I attempt to get to the bottom of things in the new video:

Here's the link:

https://youtu.be/fQ0DNDy6Tc8

The tab is attached below in PDF and Guitar Pro formats. It's seems some of you had problems downloading the tab last week, so fingers crossed it's all OK today. Any issues, feel free to email me directly (adrian@anyonecanplayguitar.co.uk) and I will email the tab to you.

I've written out 3 choruses of the piece showing some of the possible variations you can try. Nothing is fixed here, so feel free to change and adapt the arrangement and make it your own.

Have fun learning it!

Speak next Friday,

Adrian

I’ve just joined and printed the tablature. I’m what I call an advance beginner and only play in Open D and G. Started in Open G, but currently locked into Open D so This tune is perfect for me. Any other Blues in Open D on your site? Cheers fro Ottawa, Canada.

Many thanks for this lesson--something a bit more traditional and acoustic! May I suggest John Fahey's "Last Steam Engine Train" (or Leo Kottke's version) for some future finger-style lesson?

Yes, I play Last Steam Engine Train quite regularly (Johny Fahey version) so could quite easily do a video on that. I may well do that later in the year!

Great lesson, thank you! I have been playing my way through it this week and feel like I've made some good progress. And I would vote for more Fahey and other great approachable fingerstyle like this one. Maybe even some Nick Drake?

anyonecanplayguitar

Glad you found this lesson helpful. I'm definitely going to be doing some more fingerstyle soon. Fahey would work well. I'm a massive Nick Drake fan so I'm sure I'll be looking at one of his songs at some point too.

I second the above comments! I have been working my way through Stack O'Lee this week. This will be my next goal, I can't get enough of these fingerstyle tunes. Thanks Adrian, it genuinely is a delight to watch your videos. (Especially ones featuring this Martin! 00-15?)

Thanks Tom! Glad to hear you've been enjoying these lessons. I've been thinking it's about time I looked at some more acoustic stuff, so the 0015 will probably be coming out again soon.

I'm really enjoying working on this right now. Still early in the piece, but working slowly through getting this right is just the perfect meditative activity for these locked-down pandemic days.

This is old news, but I've been spending a lot of time on this song lately (and it's finally started to sound a little like Vestapol!) and I just happened to notice a small error. On the lesson page on your web site, you note that the video was missing the explanation of the fingering for the A chord, and that "The tab for that bit is shown below," but what actually got pasted there was tab for the G chord. I never noticed because I was working from the full tab which of course has everything.

David Kelly

Great tutorial, keep it up mate, love the acoustic stuff

Thanks David! I'm always trying to look at a healthy mixture of different styles, but certainly got more acoustic stuff coming up in the next few weeks. Thanks for signing up here! All the best, Adrian
