Morning all!

Been feeing slightly under the weather this week, with an annoying cold and sore throat keeping me from filming new videos. Fortunately I had this one in my archives, that I made late last year. (Hence the background in the studio. I've not changed my mind and reverted to the red. Definitely prefer the grey. The grey stays!)

This is another track from one of my favourite records. (I could and probably will eventually look at all the songs on this album.) Essentially it's just a single riff repeated for the entire song. But what a riff it is. Here's the link:

The tab is below. Have fun. If you've not already seen my lessons on Gimme Danger and Search and Destroy, they can be found in the songs section on my site.

Speak next week,

Adrian

Any chance of "Different for Girls" by Joe Jackson?

Toby

Another classic lesson if beyond my skill level at the moment. Any chance of some Ron Asheton era Stooges?? Loose or anything off Funhouse. Thanks for all your effort in making these. Love the song choices

Adrian, I recall hearing once of the existence of the backing tracks that we hear on your Joy Division lessons. Is there any chance of procuring copies of those?

Great track. Just revisited it and some lovely chords happening. As ever with requests, no promises, but it's definitely a strong contender and added to my list.

Yes, I have thought about doing some Asheton period Stooges. A very different player to Williamson but equally great I think. Will try and make it happen later in the year!

Yes, quite a few people have asked about this. I've somehow managed to lose the Pro Tools sessions which contain the Joy Division backings. No idea how, as I'm usually super-organised with things like that and have backups etc. I'm hoping that they'll show up one day and if they do I will share them here!

Ah, too bad! Thanks much for the reply. (By the way, this probably isn't relevant to you, but I once misplaced a file on my Mac, I was sure it had accidentally been deleted, and I tried this app called HoudaSpot which can search for files by any combination of name, text content, file type, creation date, etc., and it found the missing file. I bought the app immediately. You wouldn't think a file searching app would be worth much, but now I can't live without it. Highly recommended if you're computer's a Mac. I know I sound like an advertisement, but it's just a great app.)

Another comment unrelated to this particiular lesson--I've just gone back and been working through your "Breaking Out of the Pentatonic Box" and Major Pentatonic lessons to great benefit. When I first looked at these long ago they seemed bewildering because I didn't have much idea of the fretboard, and I somehow didn't get that you were, for example, simply playing the notes in alternate locations. I guess that might have been obvious, but anyway I've spent time since then with your fretboard-learning lessons and now all this stuff makes much more sense. I've been seeing how valuable it is to know where the notes are on the fretboard and to know what notes are in the chords we're playing, although I've still got a ways to go on both.

That's good to hear Chris. Yes, everything comes back to really knowing the fretboard - notes, intervals, patterns etc. It's best to treat it as an ongoing process as I don't think you ever really get to the end, the fretboard just gradually starts to become a more friendly place.

Thanks for the tip. I'm on a Mac so will check it out! Tried the usual searches and Spotlight but nothing comes up.
