Hello all,

Hope everyone's doing OK. I'm currently locked down in North London. But it's not as if I get out that much normally anyway. So I'm still just going into my studio, playing guitar and making videos. The main challenge is to stay focussed despite the constant interruptions from my 5 year old daughter, currently off school indefinitely...

This week I found myself in the mood for some raw and noisy rock n roll, so I decided to make a video on Link Wray's awesome track Raw-Hide. If you don't know it, take a look at these great performances from the man himself:

Here's the lesson:

The tab is attached below. I've transcribed what I'm hearing on the recording note for note but I wouldn't worry about sticking too rigidly to that when you play the track. The backing is coming up in the next post.

Oh, and in case you didn't see it, I put out a quick follow up to last week's London Calling video, giving you one more possibility when it comes to the intro part. And I've updated last week's tab to include this option. Take a look here:

I also fixed a problem with the LC backing track. As someone here pointed out the arrangement was a bit wonky, so I've re-uploaded a corrected version.

Take care everyone, and speak next week,

Adrian

Thanks, Adrian, for another inspired lesson. Any idea what guitar Link's playing in the Hinterland '74 clip?

Thank you for this gift from your isolation to ours (Alameda, near San Francisco, USA in my case). Your playthrough was a blast and I look forward to trying this. I always wonder what your Friday morning surprise will be; I never saw this one coming, but what a great choice, a real spirit lifter! Stay well!

I am hesitant to suggest any songs as I enjoy the spirit of doing songs that are a bit off the beaten path but after checking out Earl Hooker's song the leading brand from a Darren Watson post I thought one of his songs would be cool like the Hucklebuck or Two Bugs and a Roach. A friend got me started on Buckaroo as well but there are a few spots that could use your clear explanation. I also really like your various lessons on sixths and thought John Renbourn's Buffalo would be an excellent tune to demonstrate this in another genre. He has a video up himself and obviously plays it effortlessly but I couldn't really get the turnaround chords for example.

Peter James

Thanks, as always a great lesson -:) a good tune, raw.

On one or two recent lessons you highlighted the fact that you were naming notes by name rather than by string/fret. (I specifically remember New Dawn Fades, going up the neck once calling out frets, then the next time calling out notes.) Now I'm not sure if you've started doing that more than you were before, or if I'm simply noticing it more than I did before, but anyway, I'm realizing what a good thing that is. Trying to pay attention to those notes now.

Thanks Chris. I don't actually know. Very cool and unusual. Anybody else here recognise it?

Yes, I've always been a strong believer in knowing the notes rather than just thinking in terms of numbers, shapes and patterns. I try to strike a good balance - I don't want to make my lessons inaccessible to those who aren't so strong on the note names. But I think I have probably started to use note names a bit more in the videos.

Chris Kueny

I think the current balance is very good.

How about a lesson on Viva Zapata.

Hello Adrian... I cannot seem to locate Rumble. Has that content been removed?

Thanks Adrian, by the way. You are such a great teacher... So glad to be a member.

Hi Adrian, thank you for your great stuff! In your Rawhide-Video you write about a Backing-Track and here in the article too. But I can't find one. Does it exist? Cheers!
