Hello all! This week I'm  looking at the song Brand New Cadillac. Not the wonderful Clash recording, but the equally wonderful original version by Vince Taylor. It features some awesome guitar work by British session great Joe Moretti and if you want to work on your rock n roll/rockabilly playing, this one contains some essential vocabulary.

Here's the link -

And my tab can be found below. Backing track coming up in the next post. Have fun!

So great. I can’t wait to practice this!

Great choice, I was thinking about Vince Taylor the other day when I read that George Kooymans (guitarist with Golden Earring) was suffering from motor neurone disease. The connection I first heard of Vince Taylor due to the song "Just Like Vince Taylor" was the B side to Radar love so I had to go out and find some Vince Taylor stuff and this was the standout song. Which also led me to the Mick Greene incarnation of The Pirates who (in my opinion) would be deserving of some lesson type attention ;)

First thing I ever learned how to play, Clash version of course, can't claim to have known the original. It's fair to say it was the motivation for me to get in a band a long long time ago.

Yes, these connections are great. Not heard Just Like Vince Taylor, will have to check it out. Mick Green could definitely be interesting to look at.

Yes there's something about this kind of stuff that makes you just want to get in a room with other people and make some noise.

Steve

Very cool! All these years and I never realized this was a cover. The bassline on the backing tracks sounds nice...so punchy.

CC

Really pleased with this song selection and lesson, Adrian. All the best to you!

Thanks Steve. Yes, for years I knew it as a Clash track and only stumbled on the original much later. On the backing it helps that the bass is doubled by the piano - really thickens it up - the bass gives most of the low end and the piano gives it a bit of cut.

Steve

Ah, neat! Thanks for explaining.

Awesome sounding lesson... thank you... one quick question... Just for my edification, can you tell me the Amp, and Pedal settings (as well as where the guitar knobs were set...) I know this is a taste thing, but would like to see where you had this sound set

Kenny Bryant

I have really enjoyed your youtubes, and that is why I joined... enjoy even more being able to dig in!!! Kenny B

Kenny Bryant

also, can you point me in the right direction for the "GP" settings... I'm assuming that is Guitar Pro?

anyonecanplayguitar

I talk a bit about my settings towards the end of the video. Amp is on about 4, bass and treble somewhere in the middle. Delay pedal set for a slapjack single repeat. For this, guitar volume and tone on full.

Yes, they are Guitar Pro files. Exactly the same tab as the PDF. But it can be useful to play back the tab in GP, slow it down, check rhythms etc. for that, you'll need the Guitar Pro app. I think there are also free alternatives that will allow you to to play it back.

Thank you for your help! I'm fairly good at Rhythm guitar (Chords) but ADHD and can't seem to become proficient in scales and therefore lead... this brings up one last question (for now! lol!) I can't seem to find software that I can use to Write the Guitar TABs... what do you use? any suggestions for me... Want to write out TABs that I'm trying to figure out leads and licks to songs I want to learn to play...

Fantastic lesson once again, Adrian! Are you familiar with the song "Can't Cheat Karma" by Zounds? Recently heard it for the first time and it has some really great guitar in it and could make for an interesting lesson. Cheers!

This is amazing!!!! thank you !!

I generally use Guitar Pro, sometimes Sibelius. I'd check out Guitar Pro. I think there's a free trial. Easy to write and edit your own tabs.
