Hello all,

This week I'm playing over the Byrds/Dylan classic You Ain't Goin Nowhere. I've put together a little solo which combines some of the steel guitar ideas you can hear on the original recording with a few licks of my own. And as usual I'm discussing a bit of the theory behind the notes I'm playing. Here's the link -

The solo is tabbed out below. Learn the whole thing or just grab a lick to two. Have fun!

Where is the backing track for "You Ain't going No Where"????

Mark Cross

Seeing how the lead notes follow the chord tones is an education for me. Thank you

Here it is 3 years later and it seems I was wrong in my assertion that Clarence White played the pedal steel licks using his fabled B-Bender Telecaster. You were in fact correct when you stated it was Lloyd Green who played pedal steel on the subject track. I bow my head in apology...

Fantastic lesson Adrian! But maybe I’m about to blow your mind with this link I’m providing. Surprisingly it sounds like that particular track was a B Bender Tele as opposed to an actual pedal steel. I just got a B Bender a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it! Thank you for this wonderful lesson! Have a great weekend too! If you fast forward to the 7:45 mark in this video you will see some insider information on the You Ain’t Going Nowhere track. Interesting stuff! https://youtu.be/7z0q9OP8EbU

Hey Adrian! Thank you for the good pick this week!

Many thanks for this one Adrian. This lesson is timely as I have been working on this tune and here you providing a beautiful way to play it. CC is correct in that the solo is played on a B Bender by the late, great Clarence White. Marty Stuart is now the care taker of Clarence's guitar and plays it regularly at his shows.

Thanks CC. Yes, I did wonder if there's some B bender stuff happening here, but couldn't find any definite information. The credits on the album aren't very detailed and according to Wikipedia (not always the most reliable resource, I realise) Clarence White didn't play on this track. But I think you could be right - and the video seems to confirm it. Great playing from Carl Verheyen there! Makes be want to get a B bender Tele myself!

Thanks Chris! Yes, seems to be the case that it's Clarence White on B bender Tele, though it's hard to get any reliable info on this. The video CC links to is great, and seems to confirm it was Clarence White on this track.

As long as you keep dropping these country lesson I’ll still be paying for em! Love it!

Thanks Jason! Yes, the country lessons seem to be quite popular, will certainly be doing more later this year.

This was so fun to learn! Thanks Adrian

Lorenzo Brutti
