Here's the backing track for this week's lesson. I quickly put down some real drums on this one - a bit wobbly in places as I'm - very - out of practice, but I think it just about does the job. Hope you enjoy playing along!

From Brooklin Ontario, thanks Adrian! I feel amazing playing along with your backing track to this song you just taught me.

Thank you…!! :):):)

Yes, thanks. Gravest Hits is a treasured disc in my collection. Thanks for detailing this and Goo Goo Muck. I got to see them once back in the day. I am old. They were pretty life altering. Nice people too.

Ignatz! I’m old as well, seen them twice. I started learning guitar at age 59, almost 3 years ago after seeing an interview of Poison Ivy saying she started learning guitar from Link Wray songs. The next day I bought an electric guitar. The first song I worked on was “Rumble” by Link Wray and I needed to learn the E minor pentatonic scale. The second song I learned was “Fever” by The Cramps. Adrian here was my main resource for learning guitar. Bad Music For Bad People was like nothing we ever heard when I got it on vinyl and then copied it to cassette to blast around in my 340 Mopar.

Amazing, would have loved to have seen them...so many legendary performances!

Yes, you can't beat Cramps and Link Ray for pure guitar playing excitement . Would have loved to have seen the Cramps live. I've got my daughter playing Rumble - she's 7 and loves it!

Thanks for the shout out Kerry. I'm 58 . As a kid, I badgered my parents for both guitar and piano lessons, and rewarded their investment with a serious lack of discipline for practice. Long story short, I had fairly serious ADHD long before it became a household word, er, acronym. In my twenties, I bought a guitar thinking I would finally take it up again. It sat collecting dust until marriage and children. Only after the kids where diagnosed, did the penny finally drop. Adderall has changed my life. Among the many other benefits, I've been practicing daily and learning quickly. It helps that I can still read music and keep a beat. Adrian has been the best teacher. Especially his lessons on practicing. I am still struggling with writing things down and being a bit more thoughtful with the structure of my practice sessions but on the plus side, I practice for an hour or more each day. I highly recommend all of his beginners lessons. The Cramps are indeed a great way to feel successful as you are learning. If you are a fan, his examinations of classic Wire songs is also a great jumping off point. Adrian's lesson on Another Girl, Another Planet is also super inspiring. Right now, I am dedicating time to master the Pretenders Kid and Another Nail in my Heart by Squeeze. Adrian is spoiling us with riches. Sorry for the long reply, just excited to share the encouragement. Best of luck to you. Keep at it!

I didn’t expect guitar to be such an important part of my life. It’s all changed now. I am manic depressive, OCD, life was a big adventure…still is. Lucky 🍀 to have made it this far to be here today. I seen hundreds of live shows from A/C D/C with Bon Scott, VanHalen with David Lee Roth, BB King, John Lee Hooker, Ramones, Motörhead… After I learned Rumble from Adrian I learned Inna Gadda Da Vida, a land mark success I still play every week. I’ll try Adrian’s Gimme Danger by the Stooges again as I had tried earlier and I didn’t have enough skill to succeed back then. Now almost 3 years in learning guitar the change daily is amazing. But due to my manic nature I practice every day up to 12 hours a day, average is 4 hours. Too much? For me it’s rewarding and I’m enjoying life more as a result, it works for me. Life is considerably better now, more manageable. I started fingerpicking and slide a year ago, it’s a great endeavour. I’m fingerpicking Smokestack Lightning by Howlin’ Wolf, The Cramps tune “Primitive” is this riff…

Ignatz Maus

That totally reminds me! Adrian, how about a less on Howlin' Wolf's The Killing Floor?

Really glad to hear you're finding my lessons fun and helpful Kerry. 12 hours a day is certainly a lot of practice! I think at my peak of practising as a teenager I might have sometimes done 7 or 8. But if you're enjoying it then it's nor too much, you're certainly going to make fast progress if you're working on the right things. Just be careful you don't injure yourself!

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, a classic! It's been a while since I did any blues so maybe I'll give this one a try!

Ignatz Maus

That would be EPIC! This is one of those songs that, when I first heard it, made me sit up straight and go all round eyed. "THIS is the blues?!? This ROCKS!" (or words to that effect, it was a long time ago)
