This week, I have a nice, country-flavoured lick for you. As well as taking you through the lick itself, I also discuss thinking in intervals, adding chromatic passing notes, and use of hammer-ons and pull-offs for speed.

Here's a link to the video -

And I've tabbed everything out for you below. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Adrian..loved this. Have you ever considered anything from Uncle Tupelo (Wait Up and/or Black Eye) or Son Volt (Ten Second News)? Songs in parentheses are just some of my favorites although there might be other songs worth looking into by these two groups. Thank again, Greg

Thanks Greg. Yes, some Uncle Tupelo would be nice - I am a fan. I'm not so familiar with Son Volt (though I've got the album Wide Swing Tremolo somewhere and that's great) but I'll certainly take a listen to Ten Second News.

Thanks Adrian - I find this a mysteriously delightful riff and have come around to your picking approach IF one is to break up the chromatic sequences. But why not hammer-on the 3 note sequences? They fall on one string.

Hi Ed - yes, I suppose it's all about the idea of 'phrasing' and exactly how you articulate a series of notes. If you think about it, with 3 notes you have the option to pick, hammer, hammer; pick, pick, pick; pick, hammer, pick; or pick, pick, hammer. All valid options, all feel and sound a bit different. I guess I just like the sound and feeling of pick, pick, hammer the best! but it's a personal choice in the end!
