Hello all. This week, an exploration of the guitar style of British guitar legend Wilko Johnson. He has unique approach to the instrument and this video is my attempt to get to the bottom of what he's doing. Here's the link -

And below I've tabbed out 5 classic Dr Feelgood riffs. I've tried to make the tab clear and readable, so I've omitted some of the scratches and muted notes you can hear.

Hope you enjoy learning one or two of these riffs. Thanks as ever to everyone on here for the continued support. Have a great weekend.

Speak next week,

Adrian

Two thumbs up! Wilko is incredibly self effacing but it doesn’t seem like a humblebrag. He’s no doubt thankful for every day after his health crisis. His muting skills to get that staccato attack are astounding. Just listening to Cheque book today, wow. As for all down strokes at that tempo and keeping it clean, OMG. I’m sure you came across Lemmys alleged quote. whether contributory who knows. Thanks again.

Thank you so much Adrian. This is just what I hoped (and asked) for, as I am sure many others did. Yes, I too have trawled youtube watching tutorials and discovered several but they all seemed to aim to emulate Wilko's self deprecation as well as his technique. I came away with the impression that it was going to be easy and a beginner like myself should be able to create that great sound and groove. Months later and my attempts still sounded like an asthmatic cat and I felt like a right chump. With the help of your post and tab, I have some real ideas how I can improve, and I think I have done so already.
