It's time for another Nice Lick. As usual, in the video I show you the lick, but also go a bit deeper into the theory behind the lick so you'll be able to use it, adapt it, and make it your own.

Here's the link:

The tab is attached below. I've tabbed out the lick itself and also written out exactly what I play at the start of the video: I set up the A7 sound to give the lick a bit of context, then I play the phrase twice and end with an idea based on 6ths.

Have fun with it & speak next week!

If nothing else, the nice lick series has freed me from guitar shop performance anxiety. I think the 'Nice Licks' have become my favourite part of the channel, actually!

This one flows very "nicely" Adrian. Will there be a backing track posted for this one?

Thanks Tony! I decided to do this one unaccompanied, so backing this time. If you have a looper pedal I thoroughly recommend creating your own instant backing - maybe try some rhythm ideas like I play at the start of the video. Then try the lick and any variations you come up with over the top.

Yes always important to have some nice lick-age for those awkward guitar shop moments!

Hello Adrian Hi Adrian, I thank you very much for all your work and good taste in music, you are the perfect teacher for me. Which has inspired me to pickup the bass as a compliment and I may very well be a bassist. Do you recommend any channels for bass learning, similar to your/our taste in music?

Hello Adrian, Like the nice lick series. I haven't thrown out a request in a while and wondered if you'd consider doing a Richard Thompson tune. I just finished his "Beeswing" memoir – which I think you'd like. He has an good take on songwriting and guitar business. He doesn't get a lot of attention on YouToob, so you could have your pick of tunes to do. I'd suggest Sandy Denny's tune "Autopsy" – Thompson's got a tasty solo on that, or the acoustic "Dargai" on Pour Down Like Silver. "Ghost in the Wind" the live cut off the record "The Life and Music of Richard Thompson" is something else. And you've probably got your own picks. Hope your holiday was pleasant and not too crazy hot. Fin

Adrian It is a really nice kick. But I love the A7 groove even more can’t stop knocking it out a jam’s for others to solo over!
