As promised I've made a Q&A video. I didn't prepare any answers in advance so what you're getting is an unedited, ramble-y, stream of consciousness kind of video. But I hope it contains some interesting information. Thanks to all of you for the great questions. And apologies if I didn't manage to respond to your question. My intention was to try and get through all of them, but even though the video's over an hour long I think I still only managed to get through about half of the questions. However, this was a lot of fun, so it's definitely something I'm going to try and do again later in the year.

Hope you enjoy. speak next week,

Adrian

Patreon Q&A - March 2023

This week I thought I'd try a Patreon-only Q & A session. It's the first time I've done anything like this, but I really enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone for the fantastic questions. And apologies if I wasn't able to answer your question - I just ran out of time. But I will try and do this again later in the year.

Hi Adrian, thanks for this, really enjoyed it. I got a lot out of it, especially the transcribing and song writing stuff. Over the years I have written a small number of songs. When I played in bands in the late 70's early 80's I co wrote songs using Lyrics first method. As part of my current learning Guitar adventure I am doing a combo of Chord progression then Lyrics/Melody later. I find this more difficult but I have completed my first song that I wrote entirely myself, and recorded it. I am going to re record it as I just want to play it a little faster and have reworked the Lyric phrasing so it sound the way I want it to. Also appreciated you sharing a bit of your personal history. This stuff often get lost in Youtube Guitar world. I hear you mentioned Solo Guitar Course #2. Is that available? I am interested in doing it. Your first Soloing course has made a big difference to my playing. I am not sure if I have made Song/Artist suggestions in the past but as far as a Song with one of my favourite Solo Guitar playing is Ron Asheton's Guitar on The Stooges track "Dirt" last track side 1 from the Funhose Album. As far as the Play Like series, Ed Kuepper's buzzsaw rhythm on The Saint's first Album (I'm) Starnded (1977). While everyone raved about the song (I'm) Stranded I much preferred No Time "B side" of the earlier 1976 single. If you haven't heard it here it is, enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmQ2FH90CHg Ed started playing this way much earlier 1974-75 (there is no Live Vids of this song with Ed playing), Thanks again, look forward to part two Q&A, take care, onward and upward Pete

Thanks for responding to my Q's. I hope you enjoyed the 'grilling' as much as I enjoyed watching. Loved your common sense answers about gear, especially the last question.

Ian West

Thanks for answering my question. And thanks for answering all questions on an unprepared, natural and informal way. I may not choose to learn all of your tutorials but I will always watch whatever you post.

Mr Mont

That was great, Adrian. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions!

Gordon Greaves

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions! It was very useful!

Thanks Adrian - really helpful to hear your thoughts. When will you release your new (solo / improvising) course?

Wow! Thank you Adrian for the awesome Q and A session. Great questions folks and so much content from you A. You have been a great influence tome with your teaching style. I am 67 years old and have had a few guitar teachers since beginning at age 12, and many influences along the way, however, you are the best instructor i've had the pleasure to learn from. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. You had good answers to your students questions. I took some notes and will watch the presentation again. Especially loved your answer about tone and picking technique... KB

Hi Adrian - my wife and I really enjoyed your Q&A video - we're looking forward to the part 2! If it's not too late to add a question for part 2, I've mentioned something like this before - perhaps the question would be if you replaced your Jazzmaster with current Fender Vintage II model, how would it compare and would you be happy with it?

Chris Kueny

On a side topic, I see that YouTube lists you with 249k subscribers! Are we going to have a party for your first quarter million? :-)

Matthew Ward

Thank you Adrian. I am glad to hear that I´m not the only one who forgets songs they once knew well.

Paul Hastings

Yeah, me too.. It's not like riding a bike is it?? Really annoying when you spend days learning a picking tune and then lose it completely a couple of weeks later :/

I'm a lefty who tried playing right-handed at first (in my teens) and one weekend I discovered that turning it upside down suddenly got me as far as I'd gotten in the entire previous month, so I restrung lefty and stuck with it. I didn't realise there were a number of well known left-handers who play/played right-handed. That's surprised me... I hugely enjoyed this video Adrian, thank you for making it. There was a lot of fascinating stuff to take onboard. I really look forward to more videos on your processes and workflows, as well as the usual incredible standard of 'how to play xyz' type videos. I really enjoyed the (signed!) Zodiac Toys vinyl too, it's been really inspiring and encouraging to me. Thank you!

Great video! Thank you for sharing! Can't wait for the next one
