OK, the Q&A is here. It's an epic 2 hour + session in which I attempt to answer all you technique-based queries (plus a few other non-technique based questions which managed to sneak in anyway).

Hope you find it interesting and not to ramble-y! I'm not expecting everyone will want to sit through all 2 hours, but I've included some time stamps under the video so you can easily skip to the bits that interest you.

This was lots of fun to do and I will definitely continue to do these exclusive Patreon videos from time to time.

Thanks to everyone for all the great questions. I filmed the video on Wednesday so there were a few questions submitted later which I wasn't able to answer...next time!

Speak soon,

Adrian

Patreon Q&A July 2023: Guitar Technique

An epic Patreon Q&A session! Loads of great technique-based questions which I do my best to answer. But at 2 hours + I'm not expecting many people will want to sit thought the entire thing. I suggest skipping around to find the bits that interest you (time stamps below), or maybe watch at 2X speed! Nice shout out to Justin Sandercoe, I've used his one minute changes in the past and would recommend (trying to get my 9 year old to do a bit of them occasionally too!)

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question on playing with a pick (especially for The Cramps) and for the encouraging advice. I love your lessons on The Cramps - I often return to them 👍

Nigel Titchener

Hi Adrian, Enjoyed Q n A. You asked for suggestions on tutorials. How about Atomic Mosquitoes. Loads to choose from,I'll leave that to you. Maybe in future?

Nick Judd

And I’d like to suggest Gunslinger by Bo Diddley for a song tutorial - it’s a cool song, and was also the first song Kid Congo Powers learned - he couldn’t play at all so Jeffrey Lee Pierce tuned his guitar to open E for him when they started The Gun Club, and gave him a Bo Diddley record to learn from - Kid Congo still plays Gunslinger live sometimes and also still has his guitar tuned to open E :)

Thank you Adrian! You put a French twist to my Catalan last name lol. Thank you for this great effort sharing your wealth of knowledge and technique with us all. I completely understand and will continue to support you. Any song from 2000-2010 you'd like to cover? The Raveonettes come to mind. Have a great weekend!

Ian West

Thanks again, Adrian for answering my questions. I've also enjoyed the answers to other people's questions. Look forward to more stuff for us patreons. Keep up the good work.

One more thing....... I have an obscure request. How about a tutorial on Like a Drug from Queens of the Stoneage's Desert Sessions.

Jeremy

Thanks for answering my question regarding picking through arpeggios! Looking forward to the next Q&A video.

Steve

There was a question about applying the CAGED positions - Adrian has a great video on major pentatonic soloing (and I think that might actually be the title, too) which is basically a couple sweet licks in each position.

Mick Marston

Hi Adrian, enjoyed this. Would you consider a tutorial on Orange Juice? And more XTC please. regards

Graham Phelps

Hi Adrian, thanks for answering my question. Great answers, I always feel that just playing chords to my favourite songs was never quite enough, but thanks for the encouragement. Love the tips on the scale and circle of 5ths! Wow, your scales demo was amazing! Looking forward to finishing the video. Graham

Hello Adrian. I really enjoyed this, I did not hear any rambling. It is good to know I am not alone in the challenges I am facing with my Technique/Playing. This also reminded me that I simply need to keep doing some of the things I am already doing as far as Practice. The thing you said about breaking things down into small sections, slowing stuff down and analysing how I am actually playing a certain part has been something I have recently started to do and has really helped. I look forward to the Vids that come out of this Q&A (did someone mention Backing Tracks lol) and both of your Future Courses. Cheers Pete

Hi Adrian here’s a few more if not already covered You Tube vs. in-person lessons. Do you really need a teacher? How to find a band and how to approach and audition. Do you believe in 'ruts' and if so how do you break out of them? Overcoming stage fright? Top 5 YouTube guitar teachers who you think have something to say And a suggestion: Video on singing for guitarists?

Medium Al

Great stuff, thanks.

Alan Olinger

Thanks Adrian good stiff as always in your tips and instruction!

Paul Hastings

Oh dear, two hours later and you got down to about the question before mine. Maybe next time. Shame cos you nearly did every single question, so well done.

Jeff Owen

Enjoyed it and it was very helpful

Paul Hastings

BTW, on the feed, it looks like the older questions are at the bottom of the list, so perhaps that's why you missed mine. cheers

Chris Kueny

I enjoyed this very much, Adrian!

Thanks Adrian, lovely to hear from other patreons this way :-) I hope this will be a regular feature. Thanks for your work and best regards to you and all patreons out there.

Mr Mont

Thanks for taking the time to do this, Adrian. As far as the looper pedal goes, I find it easier to use a metronome, then I know exactly when to start & stop.
